Hi there,

I am not a professional, however I was hoping that you might be able to help me with this.

The spa close to my house started doing gel nails and I thought that I would try it out as I heard that it lasts for about 3 weeks, and helps strengthen your own nails.

So I got them done yesterday during the day around 3. I picked up my son by 5 and had already lost one, by dinner at 7 I had lost 3, and well now... I only have 2 left? I called the spa after losing the first one and she said to come back in on Saturday... but now I have lost almost all.

I know that they used Creative products. Is this normal? Is this a product thing? my nails? the technician? I know that after I got them done it looked like there was air underneath them... like you could see it coming off... but I thought that it was normal. I am by no means a picker, or a biter.... just in case you are wondering... but I do have weak nails.

What do you recommend a customer to do in this situation? I normally never complain... but after dishing out $50 for something to come off the same day... I had better chances of nail polish lasting longer!

Its certainly not the product as creative is the best brand on the gels market. It sounds to me like she didnt prep your nails properly hence why they have fallen off

I know that she cleaned the nails with what I think was acetone... shaped my nails, used some cuticle remover and pushed the cuticles back, and then used a buffer really quickly... then started on the gel. She did 1 coat, then put it under the light, then repeated... then did the thumbs. Then did a 2nd coat... and finished with solar oil. I know that on one of the thumbs... i think she put too much gel on b/c it ended up on the skin and she had to cut it off.

Even lift-prone clients will last quite a bit longer than a few hours...And if "air" was underneath right after you got them done, then something was not done correctly by the technician. But without having seen her process or the actual set, it's hard to say. I think contacting the tech and letting her know that you'll be needing a new set rather than a repair as soon as you can is important and explain what happened. A good tech with examine the damage and if what you say is true (that they fell off) there won't be any damage on the nail plate and they'll be able to tell that. If that's the case, a new set should be applied, free of charge for you. I know that is what I would do if you were a client of mine.

You said she uses Creative products...which would mean your nails were Brisa gels, and if she forgot the Brisa bond, that could make them not adhere at all. Just a thought. I've accidentally forgotten it when first doing them, and the nails don't last long.

Thanks everyone! My nails actually look like they had a manicure done. I just figured if at least I knew the process I can watch out for what she is doing. I know that the product is new to the spa, and so is the girl.

Hmm she got it on your skin thats not too good.

Are you sure she was qualified?

it sounds like the tech didn't apply correctly. she needs to clean the nail after buffing and the gel should never touch the skin. It won't adhear properly if it does. I would ask the salon to redo free of charge considering you didn't even get through the evening with them.

Good Luck:)

Thank you very much everyone... the salon opens at 10 am so I will be calling and asking to get them redone and asking for a qualified tech!!

I'm glad that you were able to help! I didn't think that it was normal for it to fall off... and they came off in whole nails... not in pieces, I even kept the ones that I found in my bed in the morning :)

Yeah..I'd save those and bring them in to show her so she knows you didn't pick them off for sure. And make sure a primer is applied, it's called Brisa Bond. Very important stuff.

WAHOO Im in a 6:15 tonight! I will bring the nails that I found, and I will stick a bandaid on the finger that is left so she can see the air pocket :) I will be 3x checking for Brisa bond :D

Good luck, hope it works out better for you this time! x

Thank you everyone! It was the Brisa Bond that she forgot, and she roughed up the nail this time as well, and the nails are still on this morning :) I really appreciate all the feedback :)

aha, thought so! Glad it was worked out this time, though I hope your nail wasn't "roughed up" too much! Only the shine should be removed. Good luck with your new nails :)

Looks like Im gonna be back in again :| They are breaking from around the edges. So we will see how this goes, if not... then I guess my nails weren't meant for it!

Well, it COULD be that she's not capping the free edge well enough...Each layer of gel applied should go around the free edge too. Or it could be that your natural nails may be too weak for gel. Gel is very flexible and if there is too much flexibility in the natural nail, it can lead to problems. Hard to say without watching her apply and seeing your nails.
