I'm renting a 2 roomed upstairs therapy centre above a hairdressers.
Now, I don't think I'm ever going to use this 2nd room as much as I would like.
so, in the future, once I get more established, was thinking of taking a part-time beauty therapist on to offer waxing, nails, etc.

so, what is the going rate?

I would just charge half of the rent that you pay, but i am a soft touch

was thinking of actually employing them.

minimum basic wage plus commision i reckon.

Sorry hun i misunderstood,
you would have to pay them the minimum wage at least,
the guild had a report late last year on what the going rate was for beauty therapists, one of the guild people are on this site you could try sending them a PM
the user name is the guild or guild not to sure which one hth

Depends on how much experience she has AND more importantly, also how good she is at getting the clients to come back. She may have say 5 years experince but if she has a very poor re-book rate she's not going to be making you much dosh & therefore shouldn't be paid huge amounts.

On the other hand she may only be recently qualified but clients love her and she's re-booking & cross-selling loads. If that's the case you want to pay her more

this is why i think commission is important, keep the basic rate low, so its in their best interest to do more work AND DO A good job, and get clients re booking.

The other advantage of paying a lower basic rate is that you're not paying out loads for them to sit twiddling their thumbs if they're not busy.

thanks guys!
its for the future, maybe this time next year.

I had a similar dilemma i have two rooms and the first room seemed to serve just as a waiting area, i was contemplating employing a nail tech then thought blow it i'll train myself, best decision i made, my first room is now a nail area and everything else happens in my main treatment room, it actually reduced my appt times as i can be set up for two treatments at a time, xx

I think commission works well, every one loves money, its good way to incentives the beauty therapies,

i would start the commission once they have made their weekly wages, so if the wages are £150.00 any thing after that they will get commision on.

yes thinking of setting the 2nd room up as a nail bar and see how it goes.
