Hi,

Just wondering if any of you have done any hair extension training? if so what companies have you done this with and how do you rate them. I am thinking of doing a course and would like some honest feedback on the companies out there before i do.

Many thanks,
Lou.

Do you need someone to practise on? I need hair extensions but cant afford the £300 for a full head.

with most professional companys you have to be qualified in hairdressing upto level 3.BUT cinderella hair is a professional company and the only one that im aware of that trains non hairdressers from scratch on the application of hair extensions, then you can do a advance course with them on cutting the extensions.i cannot praise cinderella hair extensions enough and the hair is fab and soooooooooooo natural,i have them in at the min.luckily for me i am a hairdresser,so i had them applied for free,so only had to pay for the hair which was about £150.normal salon costs for these extension would be £350-£650.hth

Thanks,

I've contacted Cinderella Hair but they now require anyone training with them to have a level 2 in hair dressing, which i don't! I did want to go with them as my friends salon uses CH and the results are fab...

thanks for the info anyway.

I actually had mine done by a lady who was trained with Racoon and she was not a qualified hairdresser at all.She was reccommended to me and was fantastic. She didn't use Racoon extensions even though this was what she was trained in though as she had found better quality hair extensions, all I was told was that it was Russsian hair.It was excellent quality and and had a lovely shine. However Raccoon obviously do train people that are not qualified hairdressers,so that's good news if you're not trained. One thing though, when she asked if I wanted my extensions trimmed I said,'no thanks',I wasn't going to let someone untrained cut my hair.So from that point of view it would be good to have training in cutting the extensions.I have taken mine all out now and the condition is fine. They lasted 4 and a half months approx.

My friend did a capital course with Balmain which uses human and synthetic hair. I was her guinea pig and loved it. Give capital a ring sorry don't know any more details as it was my friend did it but she seems happy. Never heard any bad feedback from her.

Balmain also used to let unqualified people attend their hair extension course, don't if it is the same now though.

A word of warning - Balmain micro-bonds are fab, but I (and others) have had nothing but problems with the hair.

Good luck on finding a good place to train:D

you usually have to be level 2 I have seen various courses at my local hairdressing suppliers my mate has been urging me to go on it but im not really bothered been on loads of others Have you tried extension stockists for advice

i have had racoon hair before i was recommednded to this salon and drove 2 hoirs as a more local made such a mess! The salon is scandals in barnt green bham. Michelle the salon ownwer is the lead trainner for racoon and is part ot the international team ( cat walk shows/phot shoot). They were extremly knowledgable, however would you not need to have some qualification in hairdressing to do this?

this is correct balmain the bonds are great but the hair is not at all natural or as good quality as cinderella hair,I think you will find that most of the companys who specialise in more "professional" hair care ie cinderella hair, great lengths, and racoon they are all now requiring level 2 hairdressing {some cases level 3}. cinderella hair must have only recently enforced this rule because i know of a couple of beauty therapists who trained with cinderella hair in december and they did not need any formal qualification in hair.As far as im aware racoon have always enforced the rule of having a hair qualification as my friend who works at saks hair salon says they will not train anyone who isnt upto level 3 standard. But as it looks now all the better companys who specialise in neat bonds and natural human hair are now requiring qualifications.and from a hairdressers point of view i wouldnt want to work with the hair of companys like balmain.dome etc because you just dont get the same natural results as some of the better companys.sorry to have rambled on but hopefully my info will be of some use to you.

thanks girls that's all been very helpful & informative.

i was given the impression to, other wise it would get similair to the nail industry in terms of good education. How would you get insurance? would any other hairdresser touch any body elses work ?
