My brush is just over a year old and I love it, but I have noticed recently that the handle above the furrule becomes sticky towards the end of the treatment which I am able to clean off but its very annoying and a little distracting iykwim. The brush is not contaminated because I wipe after dipping in clean monomer onto a lint free pad and the line is clear. I carefully clean the brush after each client, reshape the brush and store flat in a black CND case.

I am unsure as to why this is happening, I don't expose my fingers to the products so I was wondering if someone could enlighten me. I have wondered if it could be any of the following:

  • I am accidently dipping the brush too far into the monomer, to include a small part of the metal furrule.
  • The brush has lost some hairs - however any strays I have always carefully cut off
  • The brush is old and well loved but due to retire
If anyone could enlighten me I would be greatful as I have just bought the CND Ultra Sculptor and I don't want the same thing to happen to my lovely new brush. If my old brush is still workable I am going to use it for coloured powders from now on so she can have more of a rest

Thanks for your help

A lot of times it means the handle has gotten liquid on it, are you wiping the excess out before you put it in your case? Do you lay it down on your liquid wipings to do something then pick it up again? HTH

Too much liquid doll!

After you clean your brush in your monomer, wipe it DRY into your desired shape, and try wiping the handle (including the metal part) with a pad soaked with scrub fresh-

Let me know if this helps you at all :) Also make sure your brush case is clean and dry :)

Thanks for the replies, it definately sheds some light. I am probably guilty of a couple of things mentioned here. I'll have to be more careful I certainly dont want to ruin my new brush.

I do know that I have a tendency to submerge part of the furrule into the monomer I don't think that will be helping! I like to use the large glass dappen dish with silver lid as its quite deep as I have heard that if your brush hairs bend whilst dipping into monomer it can break them. Before I found that out I was using the CND dog bowl and I didn't seem to have this problem then.
