hey guys,

I'm a apprentice nail technician and for some reason i've been having problems with my clients having lifting. i have no idea what i'm doing wrong. i do the prep right and i dont touch the skin, i dont know what else there is i could be doing wrong.... the lifting is on the bottom of the nail either right in the middle of the bottom or on the sides. please help, thanks i appreciate it :)

Have you discussed this with your tutor? maybe they could see you in action and give you some help?

I know you say you do your prep right, BUT (and I speak from experience) sometimes when we are starting out we really need to slow right down with prep.

can you take us through your prep?

lifting can happen for lots of reasons, but lets start at the start and see if we can give some pointers.

Allot of technicians think they are doing the correct prep when in fact they may not be going far enough to remove all the cuticle from the plate.

However assuming that you are doing your PREP perfectly and not touching the skin (as you said) then I would suggest that what you are not doing is pressing your products firmly enough on to the nail plate when you get close to the skin. Many are scared to press firmly in the areas close to the skin because they are afraid they will touch the skin and cause lifting that way, but you will get lifting also if you don't make a firm contact with the product and the CLEAN DRY plate. Hope it helps.

I totally agree with the above, but I'll also add my experience.

I used to have the exact same problem, and nearly gave up several times. I then had some extra training with my local EzFlow trainer, and she took one look at my tools, and said she knew they were a big part of my problem. So we experimented. I used my cuticle tool (got it with my first training, just a basic tool like the cheapies they sell in Capital) until no more cuticle came off, then went over again with her EzFlow Pro Pusher, and OMG you wouldn't believe how much more came off! Straight away I had much less lifting. I also now have the tools from CND, just because I'm so obsessed with getting all the tissue off the nail and love how precise I can be.

I'll also reinforce what Geeg said about making sure you press the product down, that also makes a great difference.

HTH
