Hello,

I'm very new to both this forum and the business and I'm really confused about where to start! I'm currently doing my Beauty Specialist Iteq which ends in July so providing I pass everything I could be up & running by Autumn! But that is where the problem begins! Do I go mobile? Do I try to get into a salon (it seems this is almost impossible as they all want experience) Or do i try to work from home (where space is relatively limited and I'd want to look professional and I'm not sure this would be possible from my house!)
I went to Excel yesterday and now feel even more inspired about what to do next and really think that I fancy either nail extensions or tanning - can anyone recommend any courses? Although feeling inspires, also feeling very confused!!

Hi,

Welcome to the board !

Yes, it's a bit of a minefield out there, isn't it ? I suppose what you need to do is decide which option works best for you.

There are conflicting opinions and views on mobile and salon work, so if you have a search, you'll find loads of threads about this. But in a nutshell..... some people feel that you need to work in a Salon to get experience and then go mobile, other feel that this isn't necessary. The only problem with being mobile is that you do work on your own, and don't have anyone for support or critique. This is where The Nail Geek comes in though !!

As for training, once again, if you do a search, you will find loads of info on the different companies. Sassy Hassy has also written a brilliant article on what to look for when choosing a training provider.

Hiya - welcome to the site, you will find so much useful info on here xxx

hey there hunny. im foxy. new to this site to. im just starting out myself to and although i have alredy done a beauty course. im just studying acrylic tips and overlays.....i love it and im all ready to go. i cant wait, i have found something im great at.
i am going to start off at home. im gonna do lots of advertisement. and i hope to get quite a lot of business, fingers crossed. but my main aim is to open my own funky salon. if i start at home i can work up my confidence the sort out my money and costs, get a rough idea of that stuff.
while doing this i can also study more and maybe do some massage courses to. so we'll see how things go for now and like you i an so inspired i just can wait. x

Hi Kells,

I know the feeling! I gave up a job in administration cos I was bored rigid. I decided to train as a nail tech as I am now a stay-at-home mum with a special needs teenage son and needed to be able to work for myself. Hubby works away from home a lot so I need to be there for my kids!

So when I qualify (hopefully!) I'll start a mobile business and see what happens. I've been reading threads on here about mobiles and i know it's going to be hard work, building up a client base etc but I love what I've learned so far and am looking forward to making a go of it!

Good luck,

Jane xx

I have been looking around all the forums and it is all really good advice but I'm still feeling so baffled! I was thinking that perhaps I should try to go part time in a salon and part time mobile to enable me to build up the client base and then eventually go fully mobile until I have saved enough pennies to buy a salon!! Just have to work out pricing etc etc - more to confuse me!!x

And why not ? A lot of people work both mobile and in salons, it would definately give you the best of both worlds.
