I qualified as a Beauty therapist 10 months ago and absolutely LOVE practising the skills I picked up in college and am fascinated with learning and picking up new techniques.
However, one very big problem (well for me anyway)... I cannot gain my confidence with strangers. Sounds pathetic seen as a beauty therapist works with strangers almost every day, but I cannot get past it. I'm very talkative and bubbly but am not confident with 'working my magic' on others except for people I know (family, friends etc).
Since qualifying I only treat my family and friends to treatments so feel now that I may have left it a bit long to get back in to things.

Any fellow geeks have/had the same or similar problems??

Really appreciate any help or advice from you guys : )

I was like that until I got my first job. Once you've done your first client, you'll feel so much better.

It's all about experience, you're scared because you are not used to it but once you have done treatments on 'strangers', you'll get more and more confident.

If it's a huge problem - try organising a beauty party. Get your neighbours or family friends. That way you'll kind of know who they are but not as well as your immediate family. BUT MAKE SURE YOU CHARGE!!!!! You are a qualified therapist, you did this to make money and a living from it.

Fake it. Pretend you are confident. If you say (and do) things with enough confidence, people will believe you, even if you're falling to pieces inside. And I agree with Pink Pink Pink, it is down to confidence and once you've done a few treatments on 'outsiders', you will be fine. You just have to go for it.

That's the voice of experience, by the way. I used to be exactly the same when I first qualified.

what about getting your friends to pass your details on to their friends, i found his helped alot because you had a mutual conection and you knew you could trust your client and didnt feel so nervous (hope that makes sence!) i also found that the new client would bring your friend who introduced them along too, which is fab because once ive broke the ice and chatted a bit i could concentrate on the nails and join in now and then and theyd happily chat with each other.
The more you do the easier it gets, the 1st is always the hardest. Just relax, smile and be confident on the outside :) Good luck xx
