I have been doing eyelash extensions for about 2 months now and they are great, really pleased with result. My only problem is that I always seem to get the bottom lashes caught up in the top and this is quite distressing for the client, obviously! I use pads and although I always check the pad has covered the bottom lashes, it still happens. Clients are really pleased with their lashes, but this really takes away from the treatment. Does this happen to anyone else? Does anyone have any tips, what am I doing wrong?

Hi, when you put the silicon pads over the bottom lashes, try putting a strip of micro tape about 1 inch on the outer side of the pad to keep it in place, I do this now and dont get any bottom lashes sticking to top, it stops the pad from sliding down hth.

nope, don't have that problem at all as i use some surgical tape to tape the lashes down as i was shown on my training. i was shown to use about an inch of tape for one half of the lashes, then again an inch for the other half (making like a 'v' shape, pointing down) then gel pad a bit lower than bottom lid. ask client to close their eyes and then you can check if the top lashes lie flat/straight and you're ready to go. i have done a few sets and nobody has ever lost any lashes and i always ask if the client would like me to remove tape or if they would like to do it themself.

there was a thread lately about using tape and gel pads and how tape wasn't professional, it should still be on first page here actually take a look at it for some more info tho do be warned it is full of us unprofessionals who don't only use gel pads :p pffft. *hides kitty cat claws*

I use the pads and tape also if I need to. I just detack the tape a little before application, so that it can be removed comfortably. It may be that you aren't placing the pads close enough to the eye.

It might be that you are not placing the gel pads close enough to the eye, or you are not following the eye shape with the gel pads. Possibly, gel pads you use are not sticky enough and keep sliding down. I've been working for 3 years doing this full time and I never use tape on clients lashes. Do not worry and just keep on trying to cover them all.

Thanks for all of your help, I haven't used tape but think I might try it because the pads seem to move as I am working. Read the other thread and that was helpful too. Thanks guys. :D

hi

i trained to do semi lashes at college as part of my beauty therapy course and i dont recall using pads under the eye.
am i missing something?

The gel pads can move about if the client is chatty, so I sometimes just put a little tape at the bottom of the pad (at the cheek) to keep it in place. This works really well.
Hope that helps xx

Hi

I'm thinking the semi-perm ones at college were probably cluster/flare ones which sit on top of the lashes and only last a week or so and take about 30 min. These ones are a lot cheaper and the glue isn't as strong as the semi permanent eyelash extension which last for 6-8 wks with infills every 2-3 wks and are a lot more expensive and are applied to each individual lash taking about an 1 & 1/2 hr to apply. You would need extra training from a reputable company to be insured and offer these semi permanent lashes.

Hope that makes sense and helps x.:)

Hi Girls I have posted about this topic a few times in the last couple of months. It seems there is some debate about taping and gel pads.

So you know where Im coming from - Iv been doing ELE and training since 2001. I have tried and tested many brands and types of taping and gel pads.

The issues I have with gel pads are that they move, they can sting and alot more people are complaining of irritations with them. They are not meant to get wet (tears) and so when they do they can really cause some serious irritation. If your client really insists on having them maybe you can try using them after her lashes are done.

Im not a fan of the micropore tape either - this can really at the lashes and I find that the warmer your client is, the more the tape sticks!

Im going to give you my hot tip, of course this may not be for everyone but its def worth a try. I use Nexcare waterproof tape - along with a swipe of vasaline. Its hypoallergenic so you are going to get VERY minimal discomfort even with the sensitive eyes. Its avalible from the 3M website depending on what country your in.

If you need pictures on how to make up your eyepads just shoot me an email and ill send them to you - they really do work a treat and I really think they are worth a try.

ok ill stop blabbing on now lol

Do you have a link to these. I am still using tape as I can't find a gel pad that I LOVE! Always looking for alternative.
