hope everyone is enjoying the bank holiday w/e? :D i'd a lovely one in the Isle of Man, the weather was fab there.

i've been thinking of setting myself up as self-employed however i think i might be better off getting much needed experience in a salon bfrhand (i'm newly qualified from NVQ level)!
i've been in touch with a salon re a job as an employee and the owner emailed me to ask me my expected pay rate....i have no  of what this should be as i've worked in the office world for last 11 years.

can anyone pls give me advice on what i should perhaps expect to earn...is it just minimum wage and 10% commision on retail products or should i also expect to earn comission on treatments carried out???....any advice greatly appreciated as i need to email her back tonight.....xxx

newly qualified therapists in my area are on flat rate of £5-7 per hour. 10% commision of sold products. x

thanks. i forgot to say i was based in Berkshire ;)

It all depends who you employer is and the area you work in regarding pay. I am not much more than minimum wage and i think alot of therapist are probably not on much more than that to be honest. But at least you have an idea of what you are going to be earning every month. Being employed to atart with to get your experience and see how things are in practise is very important i think. I have been working for other people for 4 years now and im just setting up a mobile business. I am so glad i had my experience so i can see how things are really done i wouldnt of had a clue what to do if i had of gone self employed to start with. HTH xx

thanks haylz, i didn't think it would be very much but as you said it's all about getting experience. the minimum wage is £5.93 so think i will suggest £6 and see how that goes, along with 10% of retailed products....x

Yes that sounds about right. Did she say to you what to expect to be paid? It isnt very much but if you do alot of retail then it helps to bump it up. good luck xx

she just asked me what I expected to be paid so I've said minimum wage plus 10% Commission on retail products. Thanks for the advice x
