I would like to give a client advice on how to minimise the damage when removing stick on nails. Obviously I did not apply them :)

Any advice gratefully received. Many thanks.

If you mean the stick on nails like you can get in Boots then a few minutes in acetone will melt them right off.

Thank you. Yes, supermarket ones. That's what I thought. Just wondered if it would be possible to ease them off by dripping some acetone between the falsie and the natural nail.. as I would imagine the bond wouldn't be too strong anyway?

Wouldn't recommend any easing or pulling - just put some solar oil round the cuticles to protect them a little, soak them in acetone and scrape it away with an orange stick or similar. Even gentle easing can damage nail layers so its important to be careful. Plastic nails come off really quickly - nowhere near the time it takes for acrylic to be removed.

The stick ons themselves probably won't have caused any damage but depending on how long they've been on and how clean the nails were prior to application you may find some green nail under there. Santitising the nails will kill that but there may be some residual staining which will likely be there until it grows out. An opaque pink could cover it. Stick ons also cause deep ridging sometimes but this won't cause too much of a problem. Keep an eye out for anything fungal though.

Buff gently to remove remaining adhesive and that should be enough. Buff in some Solar Oil or similar before continuing with a further set of nails to help the drying effect of the acetone. Obviously remove it from the surface of the nail before your application.

Hope that helps!

Thank you, that's really helpful

Waffled on a bit though didn't I? Sorry if I told you stuff you already knew - just wanted to be thorough.

Might be a newbie to this site but I've been doing nails for a long time.

Take care,

Just waffle on, Jan! I didn't have any notion what to do, either! Thanks for sharing all that info!
