How long did it take to build up a full time clientèle? I am hoping to eventually move into a full time situation working from home. Also, where did you set up shop in your home? And do you think having cats will be a issue for me when it comes to building up clients?

Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks ladies :)

I have a salon in my garden i love it i am not full time yet i am slowly building up a clientele but its slow but getting there i have a cat and a dog although they are not allowed in my salon every one says ahhh let them in they are cute as they come in the garden and give clients the big cute eyes. I am sure you will get there give it time i have found its word of mouth so just get as many sets of nails out on friends and family as you can. x

Hi I work from home part time only (have a full time job elsewhere) and like you am eventually hoping to work full time at home. I have my little salon in a downstairs room in my house. I try to only work two nights a week and one day on the weekend doing nails and I have too many clients already for those times. I have four cats and two dogs. My dogs do not come into the house but some of my clients ask me to let the cats in when they see them at the door. One of my clients is allergic to cats so I keep them out and one of my clients just hates cats. One of my kittens came into my salon un invited and attempted to climb on this client and she screamed and kicked the kitten. The kitten shouldn't have been there but I tell you I was mad as a bull at her for kicking it. It's just easier to keep them out.
Cheers
Karen

Hello
I work from home, its great.
My whole unit has been converted into a salon/spa.
New Clients always ask:"Do you live here' ?
because I always try to keep it immaculate, plus it looks like a Spa. I spent a lot of time and effort to get it looking great. I was told by a big beauty company that working from home is fine, but this is a respected industry and to keep it that way, when you work from home wear a uniform, and hang up your Diplomas & certificates, because anybody can start a salon from home, there are lots of cowboys out there (pardon the expression) that are not qualified and they work from home.
Also the money that you don't spend on rent, must go to advertising and getting people to know who you are, because you don't have the advantage of a store front, where people walk by.
It helps if you have a supportive partner as well, so you can concentrate fully on your goals and the business.
Hope this helps.X:)
