I am in training so advice is welcomed. I know the procedure of gel polish application but when I put the flash on my phone to take a picture it looks quite scruffy around the edges even after a brief neaten up with a file. Any tips?

As you can see...

I zoomed in close and the scruffiness around the nail is because you are not effective enough with your tidying up. There is still quite a bit of uneven polish there.
Maybe try different brushes. Personally I prefer a stiffer brush. Sometimes a tiny bit of cotton wool wrapped around an orange stick and dipped in Isopropyl alcohol can suffice.
I also noticed there was fibres on some of your nails as well, stuck in the gel polish. These can be easily removed.
Attention to detail is important to give an overall excellent end result.

Pictures tend to look better without the phone flash also. Try either natural light or a white light lamp x

I'm viewing on an old OS so I can't see the photo but you mention tidying up with a file. ..

You know you tidy before you cure right?
