Hi Everyone,
Ok, so maybe I'm nuts, and I am kinda hoping so. I have just recently started working for a woman who only offers Gel nails, no acrylics or wraps. I have always worked with acrylic, so gel is new to me.

I did a full set on myself with Brisa when I first got the kit, about 6-7 weeks ago. I noticed that when I filed my nails I had a little bit of a burning/scratchy feeling in my throat. I didn't think anything of it. The next day or so, I had a soar throat and a little bit of a cough. I just figured I was coming down with a cold.

Fast forward three weeks, I filled my nails using CND retention just to see how it would hold over the gel. (No problems at all btw) Had no problems with my throat, which is weird because I filed some of the gel off first, but anyway, then just this past sunday I did gel nails on my boss, (my first gel nails on someone other then myself) I did so horrible I came home and decided to fill my nails with the Brisa, even though I planned on filling with retention again.

Anyway same thing as last time, scratchy feeling in the throat, and now I have a soar throat again. I am going to the Dr. in a couple of days anyway, but I was just curious if anyone else has ever felt this way. Or had any reaction to the gel. Like I said before maybe I am nuts, or it's just a coincidence, but I very rarely get sick, and for me to get sick 2 times in less than 2 months, is weird for me. So sorry to ramble, thanks for reading. :)

Well the fact is that Brisa Gels are acrylic and contain the same chemicals as Retention+. Of course there are differences in order for Brisa to be in a gel form, but Brisa is hypoallergenic as well (which is no guarantee that it would not affect you, but is much less likely to).

I hope for your sake you are not irritated by anything in the gel but I honestly don't see the likelihood of it happening. Lets hope not. Do you work with adequate ventilation? You should do, even when using gels (they still have vapours even if you cannot smell them).

Could also be a dust problem

No I'm not irritated with the product at all! I actually started using OPI and never used anything else, until I took the nail tech course and then I decided to try the retention because I always had lifting. I LOVE retention! I love all of CND's products.

I am only doing my nails with gel because I really need the practice. I am not giving up though, trust me. I want to perfect gel nails. Thanks for the response and you're probably right. I probably am just having an unhealthy winter! :(
