Is it possible to offer too many treatments?

Hi geeks,

I'm new to SG so firstly a big HELLO

I've been working mobile part time for the past 5 years offering hair extensions, lash extensions l+p enhancements and spray tanning. Last year I completed my level 2 beauty so added more treatments to my list. I then enrolled on a level 2 hairdressing course, initially because I soon realised that offering hair extensions whilst knowing nothing about hair is erm...well limiting to say the least. However, i've now discovered that I really love hairdressing as well!.

I am in the process of converting my conservatory into a home salon and was wondering whether it's a good idea to offer both hair and beauty treatments or should I specialise in one or the other?

Do any of you geeks do both? - I'd love to hear your opinions because ATM i'm confused.

Thanks

Part of me would like to just 'specialise' in a few things, but now I do everything I never think you can have too many strings to your bow. Most of my clients if I do x,y and z and when I say yes they love it! The only thing I don't do is hair bu that's because it lent interest me in the same way!

Thanks for the reply

Its a tough one isn't it. I can see that from a marketing point of view it would be better to specialise but the trouble is that I enjoy doing all aspects (with the exception of colouring but I hope that will improve with time lol)

And you're right, clients are always asking if I offer other treatments so maybe there is a market for it?

I offer all nail services from enhancements to shellac etc, I'm also going to be trained in waxing and HD brows next month and I am currently on my level 2 hairdressing course at the moment.

I have obviously took the time to practice and learn before stepping over to the next treatment but my clients are happy that they can get their treatments done just by me so they always have their nails and tan done together. I asked my clients what they would be interested in and they said waxing and hd brows.

I have always wanted to do hairdressing so that has always been my main focus. Aslong as you can perform each treatment you want to do properly then go ahead and offer what you need to.

i think as long as you are good at all treatments that you offer and keep up to date with the industry then i dont see a problem

thankyou for your replies, you have set my mind at ease knowing that it is possible to be successful offering a whole range of treatments. i suppose as you say, it is more convenient for clients to just go to one place especially as i will be offering evening appointments to accommodate those who work full time.

I'm quite excited now lol

If you have a permanent base to work from, then the answer is no, you can never have too many options really.

I've decided to limit myself but that's cause I'm mobile & don't want to be carrying a boot full of equipment !!

Salon in your conservatory ... that's a new one, can imagine it'd be lovely to sit & watch the wildlife while having treatments, not sure I'd want the wrong kid of people knowing what kit I had though ..... but saying that, what potential burglar will want to break in for a hair extension or a wax pot !!

I've been a hairdresser for 11 years and beauty therapist for 5, I have a home salon room and the attaching conservatory is my nail desk room , I love it! I'm like a one stop shop :)
Xxx

why would it be a problem? You've done the training so obviously didn't think that at the time, go for it and enjoy the diversity of your career.

Sometimes your treatment menu can look like there are too many treatments on offer but no way can you offer too much! I train every year and will continue to do so forever lol!
I do simplify my menu's tho and when clients are with me I tell them about all the fabulous training I do/have done :green:

I do exactly this lol. My treatment menu fills an A5 page front and back with no more space. I'm hoping to add more treatments and I only do beauty at the mo! I'd love to do hair too but I'm not sure yet really. Good luck x

Thanks geeks for your replies you've all been a great help

Red Admiral I understand what you mean about having too many treatments on my menu so I'll do as you do and just list a few of the more popular treatments and then when i'm performing treatments I can discuss other ones with clients.

My conservatory has been 4 years in the making:!: (very lazy OH lol) but now its near completion so i'm really excited about decorating it and making it my little haven. I'm not sure there'll be much wildlife to see though, just my dog and perhaps the odd wood pigeon
