hey guys im jst new to the site, felt like i needed wee rant so here goes.....

ive been training with cnd for the past month, really enjoyed it an im doin well, been looking for work everywher, but no1s really lookin in my area,

found a great job advertisement looking for a part tim nail tech who can do some beauty treatments too... went for an interview, went in for a trade test, ended up doin 2 sets of nails on 2 clients (was soooo nervous cos im pretty new to this!) the employer said she was impressed and my nails looked great!

it got to the end of the day, the employer sat me down said i did really well etc, but the said all she can offer me is a freelance nail tech position, which means she'll call me if she has clients booked in, so in a sense i got the job....

sorry ranted for a bit, il get to the point now lol.... im just really gutted cos i was looking for a more staedy position, which had been advertised for, the salon is only newly opened so i can understand the employers point, just felt a bit s**t cos was really lookin forward to gettin rite into the industry(workin in a bar the now to get me by) had a great day in the salon, got on well with every1, now im just feeling a it demotivated kind like im bak to start...

rite thats me done with the rant lol:lol:....just needed to vent...opinions plz

Im new to nail tech too and currently only doing friends with the hope in the future to go mobile.
I think its great though that you still got the job, it might only be 'freelance' now but build up a good client base and you'l be rushed off your feet! Advertise loads and word of mouth is always a good thing so i wouldnt be demotivated - it does take time for things to pick up. youl prob find over xmas time with xmas parties / balls etc youl be dead busy!!!
Chin up! xxx

It may be a slow one but it is a start, hopefully it will helps you gain alot more experience, but keep lookin fo a full time position, or try going mobile/ working from home as well as your odd day at the salon, i hope it all works out fo you though, as it will be worth it in the end.

Youll find alot of salons only want nail techs on a freelance condition but that can also work to your advantage. once you have a small customer base you will soon start making money without the hassle of salon overheads, rents etc. I have owned my own salon, my own academy and after more than 10 years in nails i am happiest now i am freelance, i have more time, can organise my appointments better and have lower overheads and less hassle. I also offer inhouse training to nail salons etc so it all works out fab. Dont stress. But dont stop now, visit more salons and offer your own terms.. work out what commision you want to give the salon. You go in, do the clients and pay them a comission per client. You have to pay your selfemployment, and the products and thats it. I earn on average 150 -250€ daily not including courses. Thats alot better than a minimum wage in spain. But it will take some time to get a full customer base.

Hey soozi .. if I were you, I'd go straight back to the salon and ask if you can rent space instead of working for them.

Ask them to let you rent space at a sliding rent for 3 months (so much the first month, a bit more the 2nd a bit more the 3rd and full amount the 4th month onwards). This gives you time to see how the land lies and build a clientele before you are paying a full rental for the space. You buy all your own products and use your own phone etc.

You can also ask for a 'get out' clause which, if after 3 months either YOU or THEY are not happy with the arrangement then you can leave or they can ask you to leave..

In my experience salons like this arrangement of renting a space .. it is extra no hassle income for them and you are in effect running your own business. win for everyone.

Try it out and see what they say. They may just not have thought of it before.

hey guys thanks for all your comments! im feeling a bit better now, i considered renting a space, but because im not very experienced i was looking to work in a salon so that i could learn from other therapist etc,had a wee think after reading the comments, ive decided to stick it out an just c what happens, the salon only opened last week, so hopefully itl build up a demand for nails to get done an il just go from there....:)
