Hi geeks

I'm wanting to get this done, has anyone else already had it? Does it hurt, and do you recommend it?

Thanks in advance :)

My husband had it done. He said he wished he had had it done years ago. Im thinking of it. I took him and waited for him in the main waiting room so saw all the people who had had it done as they left. It only took 30 min start to finish and the procedure itself only 3 min each eye. Just a bit sore after and a gritty fealing like sand in the eye for 12 hrs max. He was tight lol and had the manual cut instead of lazer, he did say if he had it again he would have the lazer cut as didnt like the suction fealing but it only lasted 30 seconds.....so sorry about the essay

I had Lasik surgery about 4 years ago. Was the weirdest experience and probably the best thing I've had done in 10 years.

Now, if you're sqeamish, don't let this put you off- the feeling of literally having your eye pulled/sucked out of the socket is mental.

Didn't hurt immediately afterwards, but within an hour it felt as if I had powdered glass under my eye-lids, was bloody horrible. So I went to bed- and woke up 3 hours later with 20/20 vision. Was amazing.

But not having to worry about glasses for driving, swimming, cinemas (and the fact that it took 5 years off me!) is a damn good thing- and although its an out-lay, it's saving me money as I don't have to buy glasses anymore (and prescription shades!)

I would love 20/20 vision, but I'm too scared it'd go wrong and I'd be worse off than I am now with just wearing contacts.

Good to hear good experiences of it though. :)

Well- oddly enough, I had it done becuase I was too sqeamish for contacts. To my mind I'd be FAR more dangerous with them! :)

How odd. I am so used to contact lenses now, that I don't mind (much). But I would LOVE to have the freedom of being able to see without any of the nonsense that goes with it.

As I said, I'm still too scared to even dare let anyone near my eyes. Maybe a specialist from Moorfields Eye hospital, but that costs big £spondoolicks!

I would love to have this done. But the cost would be so much for me as I have very bad eye sight :(
I currently wear contact lens, and get on great with them. I do have glasses but never wear them.
A friend has had her eyes done and said its one of the best things she ever done. X

I'd love to have it done, but only at Moorfields the Eye Hospital, I find the thought of the high street places quite scary.

I know lots of people who have had it done, not one regrets it.

I too have seriously bad eyesight (-6 & -5.25 + astigmatism) so would be looking at approx £6K to have them done

I would get lasik but there's no point with me. I'm far-sighted with astigmatism. Our eye sight becomes near sighted with age. I'll eventually be able to see somewhat normally eventually  But I do have a few friends who have had lasik and have said they wished they'd done it sooner. They no longer have to spend so much money on getting new glasses and stuff.

Thanks for the replies geeks!!

I'm going to go for a consultation, the reason I want it is I wear glasses and hate them!! I tried contacts but they were very fiddly and I constantly ripped them putting them in as I wear nail enhancements a lot, I would love to wake up and be able to see!! The cost is a lot but I'm planning to pay it monthly with 2 years interest free, tbh as long as I can see without specs I don't care how much it costs :)

I had mine done about 3 years ago - should've had it done sooner!

Its not a very nice experience, but only takes about 20 mins, and I left the clinic with 20/20 vision! Had no problems or infections and have had no problems since. I do know that some people suffer with dry eyes afterwards and some can become a bit sensitive to bright light, but I am fine. My prescription was very small (I think -1.5 or something similar) so maybe that makes a difference to the contra-actions?

I had epi-laser done seven years ago at Optimax in Leicester. It was the best thing I've done and I would totally recommend them. I spent most of the morning going through really thorough checks and tests, then returned after lunch for the op which was minutes and didn't hurt one bit - honestly. I had to wear dark glasses after leaving and my eyes did stream a bit but I went to bed and slept through it. I'd say they felt dry and slightly uncomfortable for a couple of weeks but my vision remains perfect - I think my prescription was -3.5 in both eyes. I think Optimax are still the cheapest and offer interest free payments (I think), I paid £795 for both eyes at the time - saved myself a fortune on contacts.

If anybody is interested in Optimax, there is a referral scheme where you can get £500 off wavefront treatment. Personal mail me name, address, date of birth, email address and phone number if you want me to refer. I wasn't referred but it was different offers running then.

Hi yes I had my eyes lazered in 2005 with ultralase, best thing I ever did! No it's not the nicest of things to have I was so scared and had a nurse holding my hand!!
But it was quite quick I just tried to imagine I was somewhere else while it was happening ;) you can't see anything happening its just a bright light.
Afterwards you go in a dark room with sunglasses for a bit. The drive home was the worst my dad drove me home and not being able to open my eyes because of the bright sun was horrible just went home to sleep and had to wear my sunglasses even indoors (you can see, but its stingy and was amazing to see without glasses or contacts though;) ) but the next day was better and got better everyday!
Definitely go for it!!A few days of discomfort but so worth it. :) xx

I had mine done about 8 years ago with Ultralaze - best thing I ever did - I admit the experience was not great at the time but as others have said it really is quick - I had streaming eyes afterwards for about a day - then you have to put drops in for about a week after - they have been fine ever since. When I had mine done it was nearly £1000 per eye but I think the price has come down loads since then - thinks its about £500 per eye now. When I had mine I could get an interest free loan with them - didn't really effect me as I wore contacts at the time so was just paying my loan off instead of my subscription each month.

Company was also great - very professional - would definately recommend them.

I had mine done about 7 years ago with optimax in Birmingham and its the best £4000 i have ever spent : worth every penny. I hated contacts for the same reason as some posted above and hated wearing glasses when out and in the summer. I am a massive wimp and was so scared, shaking and crying before hand but was over in 40 mins (took a bit longer for me as the nurse had to calm me down when strapped in the chair first!)
A little uncomfortable for few days after but could see before i left the clinic. I always tel people not to think twice and just do it!!! Good luck Xxxxxxx

Hi everyone, today I booked myself in for laser eye surgery! thought i'd see if you geeks had anything to say about it and found this thread! You guys have totally freaked me out lol!! Eye sucked out?!! what?! lol ah well i guess i'll find out in a couple of weeks. i figure if i can go thru childbirth twice i can do this!
I've booked with Optical Express btw and I got the cost down to £1913, which i think is a pretty fair price to pay to get my eyesight back!
Dreading it but also very excited :) aparently it only takes 15minutes (although i'm well aware it will probably be the longest 15minutes of my life lol)
I'll let you know how i get on if i remember!

I had it done about 8 years ago and was pretty blind. It took about 45 seconds per eye and I could see immediately afterwards. Probably the worst bit was having my eye clamped open so they could do the lasting, but its a very small price to pay for perfect vision! Best thing I ever did!!!!

Hi all!
I had my eyes lasered 6 years ago and it was the best thing I have ever done :)
I was short sighted (-4) with astigmatism and I now have perfect sight!
Unlike some of you, I felt no discomfort an did not have any suction like experiences! I was in an out within 10 mins and had no problems afterwards! I would recommend it to anyone :)

Has anyone had laser for blended vision? I am considering this & want some idea of what its like.
