Hello! I was just wandering-this will most likely sound like a really stupid question so Im sorry in advance!Ok-if a client was allergic to latex and you had on latex surgical gloves-would that cause them to have a reaction in which case is it better to go for say nitrile gloves instead?Or is latex allergies only an issue for the wearer? I told you it was a stupid question!:oBut its been puzzling me for ages!Thankyou!x

A latex allergy is usually a sensitivity with contact with latex therefore would be a problem for the client as you are touching them with the latex. In extreme cases it can be going as far as being in the room with latex! But this is extremely rare.

I generally prefer Vinyl gloves myself.

I used to work with someone who had a sever allergy to latex in a care home. She couldn't go in a room with latex in as it would effect her breathing badly. We ended up getting rid of all the latex and buying viniel (sp) or nitrile.

Yeah my other half has a latex allergy and has to be really careful. In this day and age its best to air on the side of caution so I always use vinyl gloves.
