Hi
I've searched the threads but can't seem to find any info, so any advice gratefully received!
When opening up a nail salon, do you have to inform your local council? Also do you have to have a risk assessment done for the premises and for the type of business you want to operate? I appreciate this may differ between local authorities. I'm STILL waiting for someone from my council offices to get back to me. Also do you have to have a certificate from the local Fire Brigade?
Looking at the standard of the salons in town there doesn't appear to be too many rules and regulations.

I don't want to leave anything to chance and leave myself open to any potential law suits from any area!:)

Thanks

It took four weeks for my local council to come back to me regarding licences and permissions etc. They can take a silly amount of time.

To be honest I went ahead as it was a home salon anyway and luckily for me i didnt need anything.

Hope that helps.

I guess it probably depends on which borough you live in.

When I took over a salon last year, I informed the local council and they sent someone round to do a few routine checks. They made sure that I had all the relevant health and safety documents. Anything I didn't have, they helped me out with.

I have less than 5 employees so I don't have to have a written risk assessment detailing any valid points. Under that, I think you just have to be aware of everything.

Licences for me where only do to with the ear piercing that we offer, where the salon has to pay a fee and one has to be paid for each therapist who can perform the service too.
