A couple of months ago I went on a night out and wore a pair of shoes I have had for ages! I danced the night away and the following morning noticed my big toes on both feet REALLY hurt.

I removed my nail polish and had to big bruises under the nails, so I just covered it up with a black cherry polish. Last week my poor little nails started lifting and I caught one and it tore right across, then yesterday did the same to the other.

I now have only about a quarter of a nail on each big toe and exposed nail beds. I have always looked after my feet and get comments on what nice feet I have (I have one of them tattooed) but now they look so ugly. I thought about painting the nail bed, but as my nail grows surely it would grow over the polish.

What can I do to make them look better? I am so embarrassed by them and won't even let my husband see them :(

You can have acrylic built onto the nail plate that is left and brought further down so that it looks like your own nail again,
you can polish over this if you like and it will protect your nail bed that has been exposed until your nail grows back,
i call this toe nail reconstruction and do lots of these in my salon, hth

There are several gel products on the market now that were developed SPECIFICALLY for the use on toes. One is 'Pedique' by LCN... it is very flexible and very thinly applied... and contains an anti-mycotic agent. This product was developed originally to reconstruct damaged or missing nails, and is now often used for 'permanent polish or french'.
