Usually they need proof of your qualification and proof that you practicing.
I send my certificates and business card. If you a model or such you need your portfolio card and card I think.
They not that strict , I suggest you go for the two year reg as it goes to USA to issue your card it takes months for it to come back. So it might be best to save yourself the hassle and pay for a two year membership.
It also pays to pop into the Mac shop often as you pick up trends and the staff know you and more then likely will give your name out first for ppl asking for artists in your area as opposed to looking names up in a book.
Obviously the Mac staff do freelance , often they fully booked so refer a lot of work.
