NEVER melt lipsticks or concealers to repot :eek::eek:, as they are already 'soft' so there is no need to melt them.

By applying heat to them it will separate the product and mess with the integrity of the lipstick or concealer, oils get separated, shimmer rises to the top, things can happen to it.

I often scrape a chunk off the lipstick (for example) with my spatula, then press it lightly into the pan, repeat till it's full, then "level" it off, for a nice even and smooth finish/appearance, so no need for melting!

Personally ive never had a problem repotting them in this way, if its a qood quality lipstick it shouldnt seperate, but your method is good too, bit faster than melting. I'd tried just scraping into pans before but was never happy with it looking untidy. I'll try your tips and see if it works better for me because the melting can be time consuming
 
can i ask who uses Isopropyl alcohol to disinfect brushes and where you buy it. I've found it on the web ranging from £8 to £30
 
The alcohol can dry out the brushes, you may want to limit the use of that as much as possible. In the US, it's usually a few dollars at the drug store. Sorry I couldn't help much there, but it's an idea about the cost!

I like the benifit mattifier called dr feel good in a tin, and loreal also do a good one or used to but I haven't seen it for a while but its a gel in a tube same as body shop. also a really great tip is to put some kaolin (powdered caly for face masks) in your toner and that mattifies but just a little! and shake well! khiels do one pre made i think. hth!!!
 
Where is best place to buy these pots/palettes for Decanting lipsticks??

Any good tips for dark circles?!
eye patches in the morning to calm the eye and then i love bobbi browns correctors and concealers as they are matt with no shimmer so good for photos and there is a huge range or a luxury palette which i finally got my hands on and is amazing!

I only use high grade products and lipsticks😃 and have found that these has been ruined by melting in the past

To get a nice professional smooth finish I level off the lipstick in the pan with a metal spatula.

I about to start offering bridal make up soon. How many sets of brushes do you have in your kit usually?
I don't have sets as such, but there are some brushes that I use a lot so I have more than one of them so that if I have to clean one I have another to use while it's drying.

MAC do a brush cleanser that you can use in between clients, just dry the brush as much as you can on tissue after you use it and leave it a few minutes and the brush is usually pretty much dry.

I am half way through my level 2 in beauty therapy and really enjoyed the make-up unit. I feel that I could really go far specialising in this area and would be greatful for any tips on what my best route would be to become a makeup artist?

Screenface al the way for empties, although i dont like to decant too much as u end up with no list of ingredients which can be a problem if the bride has allergies she lists to u!
i luv Lancome mattifier i wasnt too sure when i first bought it as i dont often buy bits from them but at the time i was desperate and ended up luving it!(down point its in a glass bottle)
Isopropyl alc ruins brushes big time making them shed drying them out. I shampoo my brushes which keeps them amazingly soft,concealer and lip brushes i use an oil based remover but if im going straight from one job to another i will use bobbi Brown brush cleanser in spray. If im stuck i always keep a spray bottle of isop alc in my bag just in case - should be over 70% i get mine from my chemist for 8£ they may ask what u want it for! i told them and they had no problem.x
 
SUKIC I carry 3-4 sets of brushes but like other pple said there not really sets! 3-4 concealer and lip, 8 shadow....

What's the one thing you must do or must have in your kit for a big makeover? I would love to know what everyone's favourite foundation is for brides?

The one thing I always emphasise when doing make-up is the brows. Its not really a tip, but i hate when i see photos of brides who haven't had the brows properly shaped or enhanced.

I recommend Giorgio Armani designer Foundation, brides love it! Its just the right coverage, flawless "natural make up" as brides will constantly remind you! I never go near any shades that are anywhere near to pink, there is never a time when "pink" foundation looks good on camera! So none of the .5 shades. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 are all in my kit and cover all your bases!!

Another amazing foundation (which has a £13 price tag as opposed to a £50 tag with Armani) is Kryolan Ultra Fluid Foundation. Charles Fox in London sell it.

Eyes Lips Face do an amazing HD powder which is so fine it makes skin look flawless. they also do a concealer which is not too oily or too creamy. A lot of concealers are one or the other and both wreak havoc under or over flawless foubdation.

Daniel Sandler watercolour in Cherub is perfect for blushing bride cheeks and it stays put for hours!

I quite like a gunmetal cream liner, it's not too dark as black is too harsh but it gives you the definition you need.

Looking forward to some helpful tips from you all!

I use MAC for most brides with good skin- love the buildable coverage from full coverage pro foundation. Also Bobbi Brown foundation stick and liquid foundation for drier skins. Just waiting to go on Airbase course at end if the month so hoping that will cover most situations. X
Also tried Illamasqua skinbase on myself recently and loved it but haven't seen it photographed yet !
 
Thanks for the replies on brushes ladies. I have a few MAC brushes that I use for myself, but I do find they shed, especially my big blush brush. Have any if you used crown brushes? I was going to stock up on them at the professional beauty show next month, but if they are rubbish I won't bother.
 
my sister is the make up artist in our company she use crown and mac the crown brushes are very well repected and are great quality investment .
 
Have to be honest and say I've had a couple of Crown brushes that haven't lasted so well. Beautiful at first but have degraded faster than some of my other brushes.

Believe it or not some of the best brushes I've found are Bed Head brushes! Cheap as chips! Someone gave me some when I was first training and they've lasted donkeys years having been battered around and cleaned to within an inch of their life!

Current favourite are some of the Art Deco brushes, very soft and lovely pickup and application.

Has anyone tried Eyes Lips Face foundations??
 
I have some Crown and they seem good quality, but haven't used them a great deal to be honest. I have Bare Mineral brushes which are ok but the larger ones shed which i hate.

Great to hear suggestions on cleaning brushes between clients.

I've always been taught to only use mineral foundation on brides and atm am stuck in a bit of a rut and can't imagine using MAC or a liquid foundation as have been told it wears off quicker as they day goes on. :s

Does anyone have any tips for doing eye make-up on others? I wasn't taught this thoroughly on my course and would love to hear everyone's take on perfecting eye make-up :_)
