Can anyone shed their views on if working from home without a spare room to convert, how they would go about making a corner look and feel professional, obviously its not going to be set up all the time as we use the rooms but i have the living room or the bedroom (i know a lot of people dont like the fact of people coming into there room). was just wondering if this was possible to achieve and what would make the situation which isnt ideal professional.

Thanks for any advice xx

First of all, check under the conditions of the sale of your house/flat that you can do that.

Unfortunatly, I am not allowed to under the conditions of the sale of my house, i cannot run a business or offer any business services.

How much room do you have to have your set up?

So i can get an idea

I think if people are willing to come to your home, then they won't really be expecting a 'salon set-up'.

Just make the area clean, uncluttered and with all the equipment you require ready to use.

For example: if you are doing a set of nails, make sure your table (or whatever you use) is prepared and looks professional, ready to start when the client arrives.

If you don't have spare room then that is all you are realistically able to provide (me too), and i'm sure that's all clients would expect.

Good Luck

There is a corner of my upstairs living room (off the main entrance) that I use.
I have a nice cabinet for stock and nail art stuff. Tidy shelves for towels. Lovely glass top table. Everything is kept neat and tidy.

The room itself, while used by family, is devoid of toys and such. It's a tidy living room. (we have a family room in the basement for toys and movies etc...)
As long as everything is tidy, you won't have problems looking professional.

Hi girls, thanks for all your advice, yeah thinking about it i dont suppose they will be expecting a salon setup. Victoria your sounds really nice will be having a look at what i can do.

think about incorporating a screen to mask the rest of the room from the client and then mask the work area from your leisure time.

I'll try to take a picture tomorrow and upload it, so you can see what my workstation looks like and how I've utilized the space & storage cabinet as well. And I'll also show how it is part of the entire living room. Hope it helps to give you some ideas.

Victoria that would be great if you could, thank you xx

Here's my workstation.
The cabinet was $25.00 from a second hand store.
The desk was $63.00 from a department store, but was reg $200.00 BUT it was their floor model without a box and they wanted rid of it.
My two chairs are from a second-hand store, $5.00 each (need to replace with matching ones).
My metal wire mesh towel basket/stackable bins on shelves/lidded bins/cotton hand towels (on shelf to the right) are all from a dollar store.
Any other questions? LOL

(please excuse crap laying around living room area... it's my day off, and kids have friends over for a playdate and I'm doing laundry).

that's what i thought, get a nice screen and make a little room, seperate from wherever you are, if that makes sense, they don't cost much, i got one from my room from b&m and it had maralyn monroe on it it was about £30 xx

Thank you.
Yes, I work full time from home, days & evenings. I work Tues through Saturday during the day, and Wed/Thurs/Fri evenings.

Can I ask? What do you do for extraction. I am working from home...well, just started but aim to and although I have a spare room to devote to this, I am unsure what to do about extraction...Anyone?

Have to say I've never worried about it. I always swept up between clients but beyond that, didn't see a problem. It's not like there were 8 techs working non stop 12 hours a day.
