So last night i ended up in A&E with the worst migraine ever!

I'm 25 and since I was 11 I have been going to the doctors with these headaches it has taken last night to get somewhere, when ever I go to my doctors I get told I don't have migraines and it's my pill that's causing it and that I'm stressed and it's just a severe headache! I know I have nothing major to be stressed about!
So I have been on God knows how many pills, mini pill and combined pills. I'm currently on microgynon but after last night I think it's time to come off it. I know it's not the main cause of my migraines because I've been having these headaches since a child.

So my problem is now I know I can go back to my docs and demand some proper medication for these migraines what do I about contraceptive. I really don't want the implant or coil so can anyone who has or has had the injection tell me of your experiences. I'm petrified of putting weight on i know it's superficial but It makes me so nervous x x

I hated the injection, it just didn't suit me at all. Are you totally against the coil? I have one but it is hormone free. You could find the synthetic hormones are causing headaches.

I have the injection and have never put an ounce of weight on, I've been on it for 9 years now. Ask the doctor if you can be refered to a specialist, there are a lot of different types of migraine pills available (my whole family suffers) your just going to have to nag like crazy!

I initially went on the injection after having terrible experiences with the implant and the pill. All was fine and i never put on any weight...until i had a break to have my daughter. Since i went back on the injection it has reacted completely different and i have gained 2 stone. I came back off it and lost the weight but struggled again with the pill, so went for the injection again and have gained weight again! Currently waiting for it to get out of my system so i can get back to my original weight.

Im surprised the doctor allows you to be on the pill with your migraines. My friend isn't allowed on the pill for that exact reason.

What about the coil??

I'm deffo going to tell him I want to see a specialist because I'm fed up of not one of the doctors listening to me. Have you found everything to be normal with your cycle and that I've heard bad stories from some of my clients bleeding for longer than the norm. I'm going to have to re speak to the nurse about my options I just wanted some advice I guess xx

I'm honestly at my wits end with my doctors hun, there just not listening to me n it took me to go to A&E which isn't quite right I don't think lol

Also the coil isn't something i don't feel safe about as it can get infected sometimes I know it probably won't with me but it still worries me x

I've suffered from migraines since I was a toddler. Over time I've learned my body's warning signs which help me to handle them better.

If I sense one coming I take paramax. It's a normal over the counter pill. I was prescribed it to stop the sickness and it really works for me. I also try to go somewhere dark and quiet. I don't have to sleep anymore but I used to.

You can also put something cold on the back of your neck or on your forehead. Then something warm on your wrists and ankles, or you can put them in hot water.

Contraceptives aren't a trigger for me. I was on the pill for years and wanted a change so I've been on the implant since November and I'm loving it. No weight gain. The injection didn't do me any favours. I was fine for the first one. The second one I bled for 3 months. I think it's purely a case of finding what works for you.

Sorry you're feeling so poorly. If your doctor isn't helping you find something for your migraines maybe you should get a second opinion or change doctors xx

After I had my little girl I went on the injection. I had only one injection and gained a stone in 3 months!! I suffered with constant headaches, really low moods, constant craving for sugar and no libido. Combine that with the weight gain and being a first time mum, it was a recipe for disaster.
Since going back to the pill (marvellon) I can already feel a difference. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) but they use the same hormones in the implant as the injection, so (if that's correct) maybe stir clear of that to.
Hope things get better for you soon xx

I've had no periods since i started it and no migranes linked to it at all, mine are stress related, my son has a tablet called sumatriptan he has to take it when he feels one coming on, we had a lot of trial and error to find the right pill for him, I just take co codamols for a big migrane, I have to stay away from nurofen tho it makes it worse

I was told yesterday in A&E that paracetamol or nurofen will work but they don't even come close to touching it, she did say codeine would work, so if I get nowhere with the docs I will have to try that? X

I think there's codeine in co codamol but you can't take it for too many days because they can become addictive aparantly, I only take um when I'm so bad I can't open my eyes, nurofen and paracetamol are rubbish lol

I hated the injection. I bled constantly for 2 years - I had the injection for a year and it carried on for a year afterwards despite trying lots of different tablets to stop it. I now have the copper coil and it's fine, although I did have a miscarriage while it was in!!

Everyone reacts differently to these things. Maybe the implant would be better than the injection because it can be removed whereas the injection takes 12 weeks to wear off once it's done?

That's all I've heard about the injection is a constant bleed. But I've also heard the same about the injection!
I might just sack it all off and become a nun 😐

I feel for you. Migraines are vile.
I'd tell your doctor you need a prescription migraine medicine as it's really bad. If you're not getting anywhere with your GP, can you take someone along to an appointment with you to help make the point? Your mum perhaps?

With mine, no amount of paracetamol, ibuprofen or codeine worked. Same as Kahuna's son, I take a triptan based pill as soon as I feel it coming on. I know when it's a migraine as its completely different to an ordinary headache and it starts over my left eye and affects my face.

You can buy Immigran over the counter in a chemist but it's cheaper to get them on prescription in the UK. I used to get 12 tablets at a time from my GP on prescription but here, it costs me approx €25 for just 6 tablets. :(

I'm currently using Zomig but previously had Almogran.
I take one immediately after my symptoms start otherwise, they're less effective if I leave it too long.

Mine are definitely hormone related but it doesn't seem to matter whether I take a hormone contraceptive or not, they still occur monthly.

What has helped me massively is taking one feverfew herbal tablet a day every day. After about a month/6 weeks, you should notice a difference in the severity of your headaches. I used to get 3 day migraines but they're definitely less severe nowadays. I buy my feverfew tablets from Amazon as I can't get them over here and they're higher strength formula.

I've heard good things about feverfew so I might give it a go.
They gave me a tablet in hospital called triptan and it worked I once was given sumatritiptan but then was told not to take it because of my pill! X

It's very dangerous to be on the combined pill as a migraine sufferer. It will cause you to have much worse migraines and it raises your risk of a stroke by a lot.
Switch to a mini pill. Cerazette is the easiest. Or use condoms for contraception.
I take propranalol daily for migraine and have found they have really reduced. When I do get one I take rizatriptan. I used to take sumatriptan and the frovatriptan but they stopped working for me. Triptans are the best! My current one completely gets rid of it.
Migraines really are hell. I feel for you. It's ****. Go doctors and demand meds!

They tried me on the mini pill it didn't agree with me hun. Think it's gonna have to be the old fashioned way untill I get control of these.
I have an appointment with the docs at 4 today so fingers crossed I get somewhere x x

Have you tried yasmin pill? I suffer migraines and this pill is fine no side affects, there dont like to willingly give it out though, because it is expensive apperntly x
