Hi, Im new to the forum, and very interested in the nail profession.

I wanted to ask a quick question about MMA.

Is it possible that you could have MMA used on you for over two years constantly and not develop any problems?

Also is MMA a glue or is it the Acrylic?

I know there is other threads on this subject, and peoples general reaction to MMA is similar to that of a reaction to a chemical spill.

Ive known some girls who have had nails on for many years and I now suspect that they have had MMA applied all this time, after browsing here, im slightly worried and Im wondering if it is possible, to use it for so long and to not have any problems.

Thank You.

MMA is neither adhesive nor acrylic. It is a key ingredient in MMA monomer liquid and it is only when MMA is present in the monomer liquid you use or that is used on you that you run the risks that go along with its usage.

Yes it is possible to have had MMA monomer used on you and not have some of the sensitivity problems associated with its use. But then, that is how over exposure works ... it is something that happens very slowley and sensitivity happens over a period of time.

However It is not possibble to have had MMA monomer used on you and not to have nail damage ... for thinning and etching of the nail is the only way the product will stick to the nailplate as MMA is not naturally attracted or compatible to the nail plate.

It is also not possible to have enhancements made with MMA monomer and not to run the risk of bad and painful nail breakages for when they break, they also break the natural nail plate along with it. I hope this information helps.

Thank You for that, was very helpful.

And out of interest, what is your opinion on the prolonged period of use.

It varies and it is unimportant really. The product is not suitable for narural nail enhancement and is in fact banned for that use in many countries, although sadly not here inthe UK.

If you are not suffereing yet from its usage then stop now having it used on you or you are taking risks with your health.

I think Geeg's post and the linked article has actually answered this question in that you cannot survive unscathed from MMA even if used only once!!
