Hello everyone.

loving this site im new to it so please excuse me if im doing things wrong!!

im a fully trained therapist and im thinking of going mobile, dont really want to but have no choice as i have been doing treatments in my little salon at home, but have been told im not alowed to because of where i live!!!

so the only other thing i can think of is mobile, until i can afford a salon at least!!

i just wondered if anyone had any good tips for mobile? or any advice (do's and dont's)

thank you in advance

Hi Tonic Beauty,

Welcome to the site, it is such a great place for advice.

Im mobile and really enjoy it, with no overheads or anything to worry about, it does make it an easy option, obviously it's a bit more physical with taking all your stuff in and out.

My main bit of advice is to make it as proffessional as possible, try turning there room into a salon just for the time your there, depending on the treatment, dim lights, soft music, i take a digital radio and put it on Chill fm, incense. Lots of towells and blankets, that sort of thing, so its still a real luxury.

Also to add a few little extras to treatments so you stand out, ie a hand massage while a facial mask is on.

I do charge less than the salons around me, but while some of them are struggling with the credit crunch I am getting new clients every week. So maybe undercutting your competition in this climate can help too.

Hope I havn't gone on too much, but try and enjoy it, good luck Faye.x:hug:

Hi Stacey,

I'm a mobile therapist which i love, I have a few regular clients and this suits me as i'm still studying and have another job and family...

I think the hardest part is lugging equipment around and getting into the nack of doing it without your clients offering to help because you look like you're struggling!

I do love being mobile but i would like to do treatments in my home also...can i ask why you aren't allowed to do this in your home any more?

Hi Tonic

Love your website!

What a shame you can't work from home - why have you been told you can't? Is there not any way you can negotiate or discuss it with who ever said you can't.

I have done mobile in the past - I think the key is to be very very organised (I always forget something!) and get equipment as Ukfaye has said that is easy to move about and does not do you damage. if I remember rightly I saw there is a great mobile bed in Capital which has wheels to make it easier.

Good luck with whatever you decide - you will get lots of help here.

Thank you all for you advice - i converted my garage into a salon and to be honest it is perfect but then someone said i have to let the council know so i did and they said that i cant trade from my house as where i live they dont want any more cars coming in the area (like it would make a differance!!)

and im scared that if i do still work from there and get caught ill be in bigger bother now i have asked about it!!

i know everyone does it but knowing me ill be the one that gets grassed on!! lol

I would try again with the council and explain that you would only have so many people a day and that you are targeting locals. When they understand the nature of your business they may say it is ok. Do you have parking for them? I would write a formal letter. The car reason seems a bit lame if you will only be seeing about 4 people a day!

Thanks for that, im going to get onto them tomorrow, i have a big drive i could get 3 cars on at a time and spaces on the road!!

i agree i think its an excuse!!

many thanks

Point out that you have a drive for them to park on, that people wouldn't be coming and going as you would only have 3/4 clients a day over a 8 hour period, that your clients would be discrete coming and going, that no noise would be coming from your home. Good luck
