HI everyone,

I'm going to have a play about with nail art.

My question is, is it better to work with polish or acrylic paints and can anyone recommend where can i buy decent acrylic paints that don't cost an arm and a leg.

I bought some from where I did my training and I hate the colours of them, I also find them quite difficult to paint with i.e over the whole nail as they seem to be a bit thin and streaky, I'm thinking though that this is most likely cause I'm not using the correct brush (purely for painting whole nail) any tips please?

Thanks again

I personally use water based acrylic paints, as there alot easier to work with and if you make any mistakes you can take it off easier !
NSI do water based paints for art and you can also get them from any craft/hobby store.
I dont "paint" the whole nail with nail art paints, i would paint the nails with polish ,wait for it to dry, then use my nail art paints for the design .
When using water based paints ,just make sure you always use a topcoat to finish. hths

Show's you how much I know,

I thought that nail art acrylic paints were specially made for nails, doh!!!
Now that I know that I can get "normal" acrylic paints from craft stores then there will be no stopping me.

Thanks for the reply

I use water based acrylic for nail art which I purchase at my local art store they are called "Anita's Acrylic" they only cost a £1.99 and they have a huge range of colours include metalics.

One tip I can offer is, I wear daily contact lenses and the cases are perfect for squirting a bit of paint into and using as a palet!

Acrylic paints for me also, you dont need to buy every colour going, buy the main ones and mix your own colours. Will save you a fortune or.... Reeves paints are great you can get a box of these off ebay for a good price. Make sure you have good brushes, the cheap ones you will find the bristles will have a mind of their own, and the paint will not flow as smoothly with them. Enjoy:)

Oh yeah nearly forgot... most people wash up their butter tubs, the lids make great mini paint pallets lol (recycling at its best)

Im also looking into nail art paints ect to have a go at it.... what brushes are good to use... i would rather have a recomendation than buy lots of different ones and spend a fortune for them to not bee that good!

Vrush pens are ideal for thin lines and intricate art etc they come in 3 different length bristles, the softer the bristles the better :)

I agree acrylic water based paints are the best to use and I love the vrush brushes, I tried using nail enamel when I first started out but didn't get on with it as if you make a mistake with polish you had to remove all where the acrylic paint wipes off without trashing your perfect polished nail.

Where can I get these VBrushes from, I've searched for ages on the internet and the only place I can find is in the USA, is this correct?

Thanks

PS a dotting tool is very handy to use and simple and gives the finishing touches to most art work:)

I get may paints and brushes from http://www.michaels.com & walmart they carry tons of colors.

for nail art I use acyrlics too, they are good paints, dont know about cheap brands, but I use rowney ??? something, Ive done designs on my nails before, and as it was a time consuming design, didnt get chance to finish them before I went to bed, so I slept, washed hands etc, then finished off next day then top coated, I think acrylic paints are ace:)

Can you use any water based acrylics for nail art? Or is there something specific i should be looking for? x

Yes. But the more pigmented the paint, the more opaque the colour will be. So it will show up better :) polycolor are quite popular but i like the one stroke paints from crystal nails x
