About two and half weeks ago, I applied a full set of Gel enhancements to my nails. I hadn't had enhancements on for about 6 months before this, and the last time I had them on I wore L&P.

On my two ring fingers, I thought some pocket lifting had occured but when I did my rebalance this morning I realised it wasn't pocket lifting but my natural nail has actually seperated from my nail bed  I've had a look on the search about this but all the answers I found talked about filing nail too much or too often. I don't think this can be the cause as I haven't had anything on my nails for 6 months. I never had this with my L&P enhancements, could it be something to do with them being gel this time?
I find it strange how it has only occured on my ring fingers too.

Anyone with any clues? Would be really grateful of any ideas as to why this has happened.

Hi, I get this on random fingers, my tutor said it was Onycholysis, it is usually due to knocking them, it grows down fine, I find it best to keep the enhancements on for strength. hth. Claire x

Thanks claire! Think I'm just going to file it down, they aren't that long anyway!

Has anyone else got any idea why it might have happened with the gel but not when I had L&P previously?
Or is it just purely where I've knocked it (I am clumsy so that wouldn't surprise me )

Some nails are thinner than others and when this is the case, onycholysis can sometimes occur.

Gels SHRINK when they polymerize and they shrink more than L&P.

As the product hardens the shrinkage squeezes the nail plate and, in the case of a thinner nail, can cause it to debond or separate from the nail bed.

Leave it alone and the nails will grow out just fine. Maybe shorten them if you are catching them but just leave it and they will improve in a few weeks.

Use oil every day both on top and under the separation. This keeps the nail bed soft and helps the nail to reattach as it grows more quickly.

Thanks! I'm going to be applying my oil religiously!x
