Hi I have been approached by a woman who has discoloured nails yellow, she is asking what she can use to get rid of the discolouration or what causes this? can anyone advise please?

It could be anything. Hair dye if she's a hairdresser or does her own hair at home. Using nail polish without a basecoat, or she could be a really heavy smoker and the nicotine is staining the nails etc etc. We really need a little more information to help with this problem. Even if she is a casual enquiry a quick consultation is recommened, simple things like do you smoke, wear nail polish all the time etc etc.

As grafxgal says, it could be a number of things. Some people find yellowing of the nails is a side effect of taking a heavy dose of antibiotics. The most common cause of the nail surface yellowing is wearing nail polish for years (with or without a base coat) from nail enamels that contain formaldehyde.

A good manicure and a gentle buff of the surface of the nails with a soft 240 or higher block buffer can usually remove a good deal of the staining.

A great product to always have in the nail salon is 'nailbrite' from Gena which the client can purchase from you to use to scrub her nails. This is a product I have used and sold for 25 years which has natural bleaching agents and is a slightly abrasive cream. Used regularly it keeps nails clean and bright and exfoliated. Regular use of CND Solar Oil also helps to protect the surface and keep natural nails flexible and strong.

I have done a search, and found out you can buy Nail Brite at Designer Nails, problem is I'm not able to find a web adress. Can anyone help?
Or even better the manufacturer as I could se if they were sold any where near my country.
I have tried google, but I cannot find anything about gena or nailbrite apart from various places it's sold at rtp, maybe it's a languagebarrier, I don't know...

You can buy it from Sweet Squared (lol) Welcome - Sweet Squared It is sold through distributors . you would not be able to buy form Gena unless you were wanting to distribute the product.

Thank you Gigi

Jessica also have a product for this, which works really well. It's called Jessica Nail Whitener & camouflages yellow nails like a 'foundation for the nails'. It also smoothes the keratin surface, leaving the nails brighter and whiter.
