I have always thought I had oily skin until I saw a beautician years ago for a fake tan and she said i had combination skin as everyone has this so i thought i had combination. Now i am beginning to question her and thinking i was right? My skin is forever shiny, shiny eyelids etc everywhere. My neck is normal. I also bought a skin mapping analysis and it says every part of my skin is oily.

My question is though I am after a good facial mask. I thought about Fullers Earth as I read this helps with oily skins?

Can you recommend me another facial mask that is good?

Thanks

Be careful not to strip an oily skin. Drink plenty of water. Try to find a cleansing oil, i.e. cut oil with oil. It's an OTC product but L'Occitane do one (it's marketed to prevent the first signs of ageing), Environ also do cleansing oil, there are probably many. Maybe you could even try researching oils to see which is good for an oily skin. For instance, I found out only yesterday that shea butter is good for acne! Do some research and you may be surprised what you find.

Have sent you a pm with details of the Neals Yard Palmarosa range.

I would say a good cleanser, toner and moisturiser developed for oily skin would be your best route. These products should work with your skin and help it become less problematic. At this stage you would maybe look to alter the exact products you use again, as skin changes over time and with different products used.

It might be an idea to see a therapist again for a full skin assessment. I know that there are products in our oily range which just don't work on non oily skin types, but on oily skin they work brilliantly, cutting down the shine and still moisturising.

Thanks guys, is there a mask then that works as a deep cleanser instead of getting rid of oil?

Sorry baby, I did realise I wasn't answering your original post properly. A clay based mask could indeed be a good idea to help soak up the oil. How about giving yourself a facial once a week to incorporate the mask?

I can send you a sample of a Susan Molyneux mask if you pm me your address. But another suggestion would be to make your own, using a clay and a lotion, which for an oily skin would normally be witch hazel.

I can give you a bit of info on the clays:-

Kaolin has a drawing effect, which is deep cleansing and useful for bringing spots etc to a head.

Fullers Earth is very absorbent. (Quite strong i.m.o.) Without seeing you I'm not sure about it.

Magnesium Carbonate is mildly astringent, tightens the pores, softens the skin. (I would go for this first off.)

Calamine reduces high colour and soothes the skin.

You can use more than one type of clay mixed together.

Homemade masks can be extremely effective and extremely economical. You only need say a tsp of clay for the whole face
