Hi Everyone, need some advice.

One of my therapists is new in the industry and is still learning all the products we sell. I have now decided to do a training session once a week for an hour or two at the end of the day or on the weekend in the morning, excplaining the various treatments and doing them with her. Do you think I should be paying her for that hour?

Thanks xx

People will probably disagree with me but I wouldnt pay her.
You are giving your time to somone that doesnt have much knowledge in the products you use in your salon. To be honest you are lucky to get a job now days if you are not experienced in a salons products.
I wouldnt expect to be paid and would see it as you doing me a favour. It's like a free training course and seeing as it's only for an hour then I cant see the problem xxx

I'd pay her. After all if she's new you're probably not paying out top dollar - say she's on minimum wage, then that's only around £24 per month. It shows goodwill and commitment in her future at your salon. And presumably the more she knows about the products, the more she'll sell and bring revenue to your salon.

I think it's a bit nit-picking and mean-spirited not to pay. If you're counting every last penny, then what when your last client of the day arrives late and the therapist is due to leave shortly, for example - she'd be inclined to say well I'll have to cut your treatment short as I don't have time to complete it before I finish. ie she'll be thinking to herself, well I'm not being paid for this, why should I work outside my contracted hours?

Just my own thoughts anyway.

Thanks guys. Its nice to see both sides. I'm still unsure what I am going to do. xx

Good luck with what you decide

I would have thought if it was optional you don't need to pay her but if it is compulsory you would need to. This is just my opinion though.
