:)Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site, so still finding my way around so apologise if this is a bit long winded.

Like most people in the country today I'm currently in a industry that has been hit hard by the economy (construction) which has now given me time to reflect on what I want I want out of life, like enjoying my work.

I'll be honest I have NO training what so ever in Nail Tech, but have a strong interest in learning. I've done acrylic and gel nail extensions and overlays (on myself over the last 3 years) which people have been impressed with, but obviously it's not the same unless your well trained.

I've recently been having my nails done via Calgel (in a professional salon) and am quite impressed with the results.

Now here's where I need help. Where do I start??? Do I have to have standard Nail Extension training before I can do a Calgel course? Do I have to be working for a salon? Not sure what to do. I'm based in Swansea Wales and am happy to travel to a reasonable location for training but would prefer something local.

I know training will take a while but I would appreciate anyone's comments or recommendations about training.

Thanks a lot

You don't have to be working for a salon, that is for sure. You would be best to contact calgel and ask them about training. Train with a leading manufacturer, try and steer clear of the individual training establishments as their qualifications are sometimes not recognised by insurers or manufacturers and then you will have problems obtaining the products without further training.

It sounds a bit complicated and can be confusing as there are just so many but if you search courses on this site you will come up with lots of information and opinions on various products.

The only thing you need,to train with calgel is a qualification for manicure.

If you give them a call on 01582 798920 they will send you all the information out you will need. They are always very helpful and will answer any question you have.

I had them come to me to do the training which was brilliant as i got more out of the day than if i'd gone to Luton to do the training in a small group.

Hope this helps :)

i dont think you have to have any qualification to train with calgel they certainly didnt ask me for any proof of qualification and i traveled to cardiff for mine with a lovely girl although her name escapes me now!!

Thank you all for your replies. It's good to know taht I can travel to Cardiff or someone can come to me. I have read a few previous threads where people have taken courses which did not offer recognised qualifications, so as recommended I'll contact Calgel tomorrow and take it from there.

Thans again, really appreciated

hello..... your situation is very similar to what mine was. and i have to say it was the best thing i have ever done....i am sure in you will feel the same. i like yourself did not have a clue about anything to do with being a nail technician....i wanted to do it that was all i knew. you are definately in the best place though for research. I didnt know anything about brands when i was looking into training ...i originally thought i would have to go to college or something but that is not a necessity. I now think it is best to train with the company that provide the products that you are going to use...as each product works differently.
Because of where i am i ended up doing my first course with CND.... more through luck than anything else...they provided me with probably the best start i could get to be honest.....i say i ended up there through luck and it was as i really didnt know much about them at all....and after a few months on the site i got to know what the other well recognised brands are that are out there.
i have since done other conversion courses to use other brands more out of curiosity than anything else as there is absolutly nothing wrong with CND...... but you dont know how good somthing is until you have tried others do you??

the advise i would give you is to really research as to what is on offer out there as there is loads that you could do.......phone calgel and get them to send you some info but phone some others up as well so you have something to compare it to
