I wouldn't worry *too* much about not having been picked up by search engines yet if it's a new website, as it can take from a few days to a couple of weeks or so for Google and other search engines to add a new website to their databases.

The best thing you can do to speed up getting your site indexed on Google is to get as many links as possible in to your site from other sites, so you could add your page to as many free index sites as possible, e.g. FreeIndex - The free UK business directory and Hot Frog - Your UK Business Directory - and consider swapping "reciprocal links" with other websites, e.g. salons who are sufficiently far away not to be in direct competition with you. The more links in to you, the merrier, especially as far as Google is concerned.

I think there is a way you can edit "meta tags" (keywords and description) with Vistaprint too, but it isn't that obvious how to find it unfortunately.

No, I'm sure they won't mind! I guess that's the risk you take when you go with someone like Vistaprint who have a range of off-the-shelf designs that anyone can use as opposed to something unique to you...

i wanted to have one unique to me but could not find anyone in my area that was in my price range and i was too busy to design one from scratch. so i think that will be a job for next year xxx thank you for your commentsxx

I think it would look better if you had 'welcome to pure indulgence', or just 'welcome', rather than having 'welcome to my website!!!'.
I also think you could do with a few more pictures in your gallery.
Your prices are very low for some treatments too.
I like that it is easy to navigate and i like the colours :)

thank you i am gonna make those changes to introduction i do have alot more photos to go onto the site that is my job for this evening! regards to the price i know some are a bit low but they are inline with other salons in my area i am mobile and have just put some prices down a bit because i have had people asking how much i charge and then saying oh well i can get that done in this salon for cheaper or well i can get that done in a salon encironment for the same price. i am hoping i have not shot myself in the foot by lowering prices a little. i am still trying to build up my client base and although buisness is going steady i still have spaces in my diary that i want to fill and i have tried special offers and this does not tend to attract alot more clients as all the other salons in this areaare doing the same its a bit of a confusing time for me at the moment trying to decide what to do for the best  thank you for your comments and advice

Ruth, you crack me up and have a very keen eye.

These made to measure websites are convenient, but they do get a tad boring after a while.

Even when a business seeks professional advice, they have a website in mind, then the design is merely copied, ....... it's not design, it's plagiarism.

My site is far from professional standard, but I like the fact it is an "adventure" and this adventure gets me genuine clients that truly want me and what I do, with an understanding of the attitude they are in for.

Hi Claire, your site is clear and clean. Which of your clients will really care that so and so 100 miles away has the same looking site as you? None I would guess. So don't worry too much!

My only suggestion would be that where you start off on the Home Page talking about yourself you should keep this to a couple of lines and then add a link or direct clients to the About Me page as this is where that kind of info needs to be, this will allow you room on your Home Page which will be the one with the most views for promotions which will hopefully draw your clients in to book with you.

Other than that keep your web site fresh with new offers, monthly is enough otherwise people will switch off and have no reason to visit your site, always give them a reason to visit!!

Hope this helps!

Hi Claire, Try getting a local business listing on google local business centre - this will bring you up in local searches.

You can also do some keyword research to find out what people are searching for in your area and then add those keywords to your site. Google has a great keyword tool here: https://adwords.google.co.uk/select/KeywordToolExternal it shows you how many searches per month are being made for keywords and phrases.

one quote was over £500 i dont know if that is a good price for website design and hosting etc another was £285 which was why i decided to go to vistaprint!

Both fairly pricey then - especially the one that was over £500! I guess that's what you'd expect from companies who have to pay for office space and managers and whatnot though...

thank you for the link! i am gonna do that now

£500 is probably middle-of-the-range for what we call a "brochure" site (which is a website that just says what you do, doesn't have e-commerce or anything like that). Hosting can range anywhere from about £3 a month to about £50 for a brochure site (Servage Servage Hosting - One Solution is the cheapest reliable hosting that I use and costs about £4.50 a month, Fasthosts Web and email hosting, domain names and dedicated servers - Fasthosts is the UK's largest hosting company).

The most economical way of getting a website (if you time and bit of computer literacy and design skills) is probably something like Mr Site (Mr Site - Make a website - website builder - Create a website) or Moonfuit (Free Website Builder - Moonfruit - Beautiful websites, simply). VistaPrint may well be good too (I can't I've looked at it that closely).

Most web companies are really looking for high-profit companies that want to spend £2000+ on a website then more on top of that for things like SEO (search engine optimisation, which is a fancy way of saying getting on google) so often your choice is either Mr Site/Vista Print/Moon Fruit type things or spending thousands! There are a few people (like myself) who cater to the people who don't quite have the time or skills for Moonfuit/Mr. Site type places but don't have £500 to spend on a website. If you google for something like "affordable websites" or ask around you can probably find them.

Whoever you go with there are a few things that are worth checking for: 1. You domain name (yourbusiness.com) is how people will remember your website. Always make sure you retain control of this and don't have to pay huge fees to move the domain somewhere else. As long as you control this, you can control your website.
2. Bewary of fly-by-night web companies who will take payment and not deliver. It is common to ask for a deposit, although not everyone does but payment upfront is a bit dodgey unless its very cheap (like Moonfruit and Mr. Site). Looking for things like limited companies, registered trademarks, addresses that are traceable etc are a good way of checking companies veracity. Foreign companies can often offer cheap services, but there is no redress if things go wrong.
3. Always make sure you get a site that you can update yourself. Most web developers provide this service as standard, but if they don't becareful because you may find yourself having to pay ever time you want to change your opening hours, announce a new product or service, etc...
