I have recently opened a new salon and everything seems to be running smothly apart from the stock!
I just can't seem to get the ordering right and seem to either be buying into too much or too little.
Can anyone give me any hints on how to be more organised or what procedures they have in place to keep the stock running smoothly!
The last thing I want is to run out and not be able to complete a clients treatment - nightmare!!!

How long have you been open?

Look through your books and make a spreadsheet of how many of each product was sold and during which month. This should give you some idea of which products are most popular and you need more of.

We were recommended to have about 3 of each product, but more of the popular products and to keep these at eye level. Eye level is buy level.

If you have only just opened this is always going to be a hit and miss thing and is perfectly normal...even with established business getting the stock profile right between over and or under stocking is a constant nightmare.
The only consolation is that once you have been trading a while you will start to see a pattern of activity develop over time which will go some way to helping you "anticipate" better your stock requirements.

The key to the success of any business is having the right suppliers supporting your business and suppliers that can ,under certain circumstances,"bend over backwards" to service your requirements.

Good luck with your business

I do hair rather than beauty but i was recommended to keeep the ends of the boxes of colour i had opened, then at the end of the month can see how much and of what i have used, which will help me for ordering stock! don't know if its possibly for you, maybe you could take off the label of a product every time you finish a bottle and see after a week/month how much you have used:) xx
