Has anyone ever trained in beauty before and then all of a sudden didn't want to do it but wanted to concentrate on one particular area? I'm qualified in everything beauty but haven't been doing beauty for the past year as I had a baby and have tried getting back into it through family and friends but I just don't have my heart in it anymore but love nails and could sit doing nails everyday but also feel my qualifications are going to waste then :( don't know what to do about the whole thing. Any advice?

There's nothing wrong with that! You could market yourself as a Beauty therapist specialising in nails, or a nail specialist, your qualifications simply mean you have a rounded knowledge of everything, which is never bad!

So would it be better to specialise in nails but also still advertise I can do beauty so if anyone asks for it then its available?

You would have to have lots of stock hanging around and your heart wouldn't be in it.Many people specialise in nails.

I would still do treatments on myself so I would have the stock there for myself anyway. I'll maybe just keep the minimum to have incase anyone wants a quick leg wax or facial

Oh my goodness! I've done the Same thing! (Without the little un! Haha) half way through my course I realised I have no interest in make up/ facials, more interest in waxing but loved nails.
I have no set up specialising in nails, those close to me know I offer eyebrow wax and under arm waxes.
I wasn't very confident to do all of the beauty because I found it uninteresting!
However never say never, if I change my mind the world is my oyster to redo some training!
Good luck! Xxx

Hello Precious!
I totally understand you as I'm in the same boat as you are .
I started 9 years ago doing just manis and pedis , after 5 years I have qualified in body massage and reflexology and I just realised , these days , after 9 years , that I don't want to do nails anymore and decided to take off the menu the nail treatments and sell all the products , equipment , etc..because I feel like I'm cut out for body massages .
And ..what is my best selling treatment ? That's right , body massages !
So , no, you are not wrong Precious, I always thought that doing something with passion , something that if you would go back in time and have to chose it again, you would chose it again ,with no regrets whatsoever and that's when people chose YOU over others.
Good luck!xx

I am going through exactly the same
Thing. I qualified in icy but have only really done nails! Talking to my own beauty therapist last night shes managed to convince me
To get back into but now lacking confidence and the get up n go to do it :-( ive jus posted similar thread! Any ideas of how can get bak into it n build confidence would be great x

I trained in beauty but have always done more nails as I enjoyed that more. Ive just gone self employed and all my new booking have been for acrylics or shellac so I enjoy just being a nail tech!

I'm just going to try and push nails more than anything but have other treatments available if need be ie tinting, waxing, massage as these don't need a lot of products but won't do tan or facials as the stock would just be sitting there and going off :s

When you love doing something and your heart is in 100% then your clients will benefit, they will feel your buzz and excitement and this will cause them to return and tell friends.

Who would you rather receive a treatment from? Someone who loves their job? (its going to show in the end result) or the person just going with the flow?

If in a few years time you want to go back down the beauty route you have the qualifications...

Good luck x

do what you love and you will be busy enough to worry about wasting other qualifications! I am trained in beauty, nails, holistics and hairdressing (mens hair)...nails is my thing so i stick to that but do offer waxing, tinting and spray tans...i only cut my boys hair and my husbands now so at least not completely giong to waste!(the money i save on their hair cuts every few weeks i spend lol xx

For as long as you love what you are doing and you feel productive with it, then I think there's nothing wrong with that. Just nurture your niche.

Hi there Precious, I'm not sure where you are located or if this is of interest, but we are currently hiring for an Admin / Sales Assistant, to help assist and sell Universal Contour Wrap. This is naturally a role still within the beauty industry but very different to the face to face contact inside a salon. We are based in Ashford, Middlesex. If it's anywhere near you please do let me know.
Thanks, Chris.

Could it maybe be, you've lost your confidence a little with being... I no when I had nine month off I felt a little like you. I dreaded people asking for shellac.. But now its what I do most of and don't think twice about doing it xx

There's nothing wrong with feeling that way at all. Everyone changes, the qualifications aren't going to disappear. I qualified a year ago now and I struggled finding a job because of 'experience' nobody seems to like taking on graduates anymore and as time went on I realised I didn't want to do it anyway. im now going back into education studying Animal Management and hoping to go off to uni after. If you like nails then be a Nail Technician. :)

Yep!...did the 2 year course and half way through thought oh my god i don't want to do this for the rest of my life!! I fell into nails and thats what i now do, i have my wax pot handy if anyone wants an eyebrow shape or tinting. I added lashes which i love, but I'm still proud of by beauty certificate! Just means i can do everything if i want to

I think your interests and goals change in that when you study beauty and nails, you can start and end the course with different ideas of what you want to do.

I trained in both and wanted to do more nails initially and I would still love to do that. However as someone who wanted to be in an employed role it was easier to get my first job doing more massage/beauty. In fact, I did my first course in make up because I wanted to work on a makeup counter until I got the bug to learn more and realised I didnt want to be on my feet all day.

So yeah, it can change :)

I studied hair & beauty with hair being my main goal, I qualified but now beauty is my main business! I actually enjoy it alot more. Xx
