I have in the last few weeks started to experience pain in the proximal interphalangeal joint of my index finger, left hand. The pain is most noticable when I flex the finger....the joint also looks swollen.

Is this a common thing for nail technicians to experience?

I have been paying attention to how I support the client's finger whilst working on them and I do tend to support with my index finger underneath the client's finger as opposed to having the fingers side to side....hope that makes sense ...... and I am thinking that too much downward pressure on this joint has started to cause trouble.

I will endeavour to alter the posture of my finger but any thoughts/advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Could be any number of things, my daughters' is badly swollen in the same place and finger, and we have been told hers is arthritis. I'd get it checked by the doctor/specialist.

Thanks, I know I should go to the GP, it's just all that getting round to it!....I didn't want to mention tha A word lol

 mmm yeh maybe I should have added other things than the "A" word.
Could be dislocated, broken, there could be a bone spur, have you ever broken that finger before? Or could just be plain over use, telling you its time for a wee holiday.

I think it might just be the latter coupled with dodgy finger posture.....I was wondering if anyone else gets or has this too, is it a nail tech finger phenomenon!!
