Part time holidays

Hi all

I know there is new legislation out about holidays im just having a problem working them out. Ive been on a few websites that tell you how to do this but im still not sure ive done it right. So if anyone knows can you let me know if this is right?

The employee works mon 9-6, thur 4-9, fri 4-9 and sat 9-6 - works out 27 hours per week (not including lunch). So ive worked this out as 17 days per annum which includes 8 bank holidays.

What is confusing me is on the days she works 4 - 9 - if she has a holiday is it counted as a full day or a half day??? I was going to make it a half day but not sure if its fair on the other girls or her or what!!!! Im going mad!!!!!!!!

i think thats the link, go straight to first question. Thats what i use to calculate holiday for myself (my boss tried to pinch an extra week off me so i looked into it!).

The business link website is great for working out holidays. just remember that part time staff only get paid for the hours they work in a week. so if your employee took a week of they get paid for the 27 hours only. on a bank holiday, where the employee works 9 - 6 then i would pay them for those hours.

Just remember that its better to count holidays in hours though, when employees work different hours on different days.
 
you should work it out in hours rather than days ,as some days she works longer than others

the formula is simple ,it is 5.6 (which is equivalent to 28 days ie 5.6 weeks) multpilied by her weekly working hours.You just deduct the hours she takes from this when she books leave
 
Don't know if this'll help, but in my (eugh!) office job, the full time people's holidays are worked out in days, but the part time people's holidays are worked out in hours. So for example, being part time and working 2 days pw, 8 hours per day, my total holiday entitlement is pro rata to the full timers who do 37 hours.

If I book a day's holiday, I book 8 hours. If a different part timer who works 4 hours wants a day holiday they book 4 hours. I think if you did this with your lady, if she wants a day's holiday on her short day, it's gonna be fair on everyone.
 
Don't want to add to your confusion but I'd check if bank holidays are included or are extra.
At my place if we are scheduled to work when a bank holiday falls we get a day's holiday in liew and if its a rest day we get paid for it.
I don't know if this is law or if its company policy but the union guy's were all over it this year.

Defintely needs to be owrked out in hours.

As to bank holidays, you only get the bank holiday if that is a normal day of working for you ie if you never work a monday you dont get paid for the bank holiday,

but if you work rotas or different hours so for example if you only work 1 in every 3 mondays or you worked 7 hours one week, 5 hours next week 3 hours next week etc etc, you work out what the employee has worked in the 8 mondays prior to the bank holiday average it and that is the amount of hours you pay them for
