Hi All,

I'm feeling a whole lot let down at the moment of this industry:cry: I don't know what I'm doing wrong?? I had a client booked in for infils Wednesday and her friend too for full set of nails plus eyebrow shape so it was a good mornings work booked out but on arriving at her house she wasn't there:irked: so I lost money plus really angry that she hadn't let me know she didn't want me:mad: I left a note at her house saying she had missed her appointment and could she ring me as soon as so it was an hour after I got home and she text me she couldn't even ring me:mad: to say that she couldn't have her nails done this week or next week?? and a sorry at the end of the text, (she sounded sorry NOT!)

I was wondering what you guys do in this situation?? (I just felt really angry)

Any opinions would really help

Thanks

Tell me about it :grr:

People seem to be getting worse. I've only logged on here because my first client of the day has "forgotten" to turn up . . . I rang her cos she's not normally late and we've rescheduled her into my already frantic Monday :irked:.

On Wednesday I had a no-show as well (she's a regular too so we've again rescheduled)

Last Friday, same thing with someone else.

Is it the weather?

It's a bummer hun.
I think I would have stuck a note through the door requesting payment in full for missing appointment.
She probably wouldn't have paid but it would have made me feel better.
In future if this client re-books only let her if she pays you a deposit.

I usually text people the night before, bit of a pain in the butt, but just to double check,I hate it when people say..oh no I have to cancel it,can I call you back later to rebook?..9/10 times dont hear from them again..that really bugs me.If they dont want to carry on with the nails ..then tell me..not flobbing me off with call me back later.

That is so inconsiderate though to turn up and not be in though..hasnt happened to me yet..touch wood, but I know of others on here that it has happened to aswell.Oh the worst I had was a girl was about half an hour late for her appointment, but good job it was an evening slot and I had nothing after.

Hya,

Yeah weather it might be but it is really really annoying people are sooo ignorant  I would never do it but what can do you I just don't know I really don't I couldv'e kicked myself for not taking a deposit for what was quite a big booking  but I didn't so I will learn the more people do it the harder we get (not really)

Thanks though it's comforting to know it's just not me it happens to

I'm thinking of starting to do this, or a quick phone call. It's go to be worth it.

It's so annoying but all part of the "people" business that we're in I guess. Luckily it's only a few who let me down.

If it's a new client who doesn't show up, I put them on my blacklist and I don't rebook them. (Unless there's a genuine reason. You have to use your discretion a bit.)

I feel like this about this lady who couldn't even be bothered to ring me and who didn't have a genuine reason for her ignorance in my opinion I don't really want to re-book her but will do it in a way that I will be very busy even though I'm not:confused: What you think?

Thanks again

Its a very difficult situation but I swear people think I do this job as a hobby because I fit it around looking after my children.

They think nothing of cancelling on the day they are booked in for or as you say send a text. I even got some retail products for one client who cancelled and never re-booked. Luckily I sold them to another client.

I have to say I am having a bit of a "down" month about doing nails because of this exact situation. Don't get me wrong I have quite a few lovely clients but the odd few really can spoil your day!

I would like to hear from others who have ideas on how to deal with it, I have wracked my brains and feel its just "one of those things" grrrrrrrrrrrr

I know I get it a lot of people txtin me the day before or on the day!!!! this is my career not a hobby at their disposal!!! My friend has a salon and with infils etc takes a £5 deposit against next appointment non returnable which is a good idea (not so easy to do when mobile) I get really annoyed as I go to all the trouble of packing my car up etc etc and then getting there and their NOT EVEN IN GRRRRRRRRRRR I was soooo bloody annoyed but it's just people as you say not everyone is like it but I'm finding a lot are like you I'm feeling very dispondent about the whole thing coz what I'm earning aint exactly a fortune if it wasn't for my boyfriend being on great money there is noooo way I could do it:irked:

I don't know which way to turn at the moment

Hya,

Yes I agree totally with you I sometimes wonder whether it would just be easier to work for someone else (less stress) coz at the moment that's all i do is worry about this business I can never switch off, and I think I give people a good service but as you say they can't respect the fact that you are a business and are serious about what you do grrrrr like you I love the freedom of being self employment but it isn't enough for me mainly coz of being sooo worried all th etime will they cancel will they like my services etc etc I worry sooo much and the effort is wasted I think and your confidence gets knocked soooo much in this industry I think it's one of the hardest to survive in.
People say to me what a lovely idea it is to go to peoples homes bet your busy I just nod in agreement but actually it cracks me up I was treated with more respect when I worked behind the bar and that's saying something!

Sorry rant over I just don't know anymore is it me????

Aw hun, I feel for you, it hasnt got to me quite that bad yet,Im actually doing another self employed job too, which guarantees me three days work a week so nail takings are a bonus for me , the frustrating thing is I could get more hours in my other job,but I want to leave a couple of days for nails,so this is another thing thats bugging me at the moment,as well as having a daughter to work round, and a hubby that I cant rely on what time hes going to get home from work,so all a bit of a pain in the butt really, but heh if there was a perfect job out there wed all be doing it wouldnt we.
No I dont think its just you Ive realised in this industry you have to be strong..n Im just gritting me teeth and trying to get on with it,and I am not the strongest of people I might add, when people say Ill call you back later its puts me on a downer makes me feel there not happy with me,but I just try to reasure myself there just too busy or cant afford it.
I s there no other way of you getting another part time job ?

Hya,

Thanks for your thread yes you have to be strong to survive this industry you really do I'm just a bit fed up of it all at the moment I get knocked quite easily (but haven't given up yet) but I do bounce back coz I love what I do I'm just finding it hard that's all I just seem to get clients but they don't stay loyal but I know it's not what I do coz the service they receive is exactly what I'd like someone to do for me but again I don't know why they don't stick with me

Any advice on these points?

That's exactly how I would deal with it. Some people will disagree and say business is business but personally I can't be doing with people who have such little respect for my time, it makes me :irked:!

I'm feeling cheesed off recently about this too, since last Friday there have been three people who have "forgotten" about turning up. They are all regulars, I like them all and they have good track records lol, ie the usually are very reliable, so I will forgive them  but it does wind you up.

I agree though, when you get a stint of them it really puts you on a downer.

Like you I work from home, I do school hours and evenings. One client who failed to turn up actually said on the phone "I didn't feel too bad cos I thought oh well at least you could do the ironing or something as you're at home". Yeah right, that's alright then.

Hi

Oh my god that terrible thing to say OH YEAH I'M home SO that's OK NOT!!!!! that really winds me up!!!!! so that client obviously felt better about her bloody ignorance grrrrrrrr:grr:

Hya,

I'm glad you said that coz I really don't wanna waste my time with this woman again I'm really getting fed up with these people that think it is their god given right and don't even say sorry grrrrrrr so I will make it very difficult for her to re-book me that's if she rings me (I hope she doesn't) :irked:

Thanks again

I feel sorry for you guys, I have only once been let down by a client as she forgot her appointment as she was busy with wedding plans, I'm afraid I billed her £40 which was half the treatment cost and then didn't feel so let down. I had lost out on another booking while sitting outside her house for an hour waiting for her, just in case she came back, so it was only fair she paid me for my time.

You should bill these clients at 50%, if they refuse to pay then black list them and if they pay but let you down again then I would do a two strikes and you're out policy unless they are willing to pay the full missed treatment cost at their next appointment.

Make your policy clear when they make the booking. Why should you suffer financially for their change of plans? I know it seems hard to do but they probably didn't give you a second thought and if they are serious about their booking they will have no problem with this. You can of course waiver the fee if they have a genuine excuse.

I have had only 1 terror of a client, mind you she was awful! She arrived for her first appointment and loved her nails, so booked every 3 weeks for quite a stretch. Anyway, she never turned up for any of her appointments after that, so I phoned when she was 1 hour late for the first re-balance, she had forgotten.

She re-booked and I said that if she wanted I could give her a call the night before just to remind her, that would be lovely she said, so I called her, she had remembered and would see me the next evening at 7.....didnt turn up.

I phoned again and she wanted to re-book, I said that this time I would have to ask for a deposit, that was fine, she said she would call in with it....never turned up.

She wanted evening appointments aswell, meaning I had to get the kids to bed by 7pm to make sure I was ready for her and then she never showed!

Needless to say I binned her.

She phoned a few weeks later to ask why I hadnt been in touch, I explained my reasons, and she asked to book another appointment, I refused her an appointment and she said 'Im not bovvvvvered' and hung up!

Personally I can do without clients like that! No respect for you or your time or your life outside work, its just plain rude!
