Hi i had a lady who had a facial with me a few months ago come in to say that her skin is really bad & needs a product that she can use on it. When i did her face mapping i perscribed anti-bac skin wash as a demalogica cleaner as i use their products. However my client said that she purchased it somewhere else a few years ago and felt like it still didnt well for her. She use 2 suffer with really bad acne and she thought they was like scars yet they dont seem to disappear their almost like in clusters around the chin and cheek area, to me they look red and inflammed which i'd still consider has acne although they dont look like ordinary breakouts quite flat on the skin in little red clusters.
I recommended that the uses the Medicated clearing gel as in overnight treatment but when she read that it was for acne skins she said that it felt that her skin would of passed that stage cos theirs no pus or anthing coming out of them i explained that theres different levels of acne and that this product would help to prevent future breakouts and that gentle soothing booster would help to calm the redness in her skin.
She also uses Clearasel and saids that this is helping to drie them out which is why they appear flakey on her skin
WHich Dermalogica solution and advice would be best for her bearing in mind that shes recently found out shes pregnant too.
I feel her skin is really getting her down and she uses lots of make-up to cover it up so really want something thats going to give good results.
ideas and advice is needed salon geeks please
thanks

Hello Layla!

If her skin has marks from spots rather than any current inflammation, I find that Skin Hydrating Booster works well clearing them up. It's also perfect for her if she's pregnant. She can use 6 drops all over her face before her moisturiser or less drops just on the areas she is concerned about. I often just use the Skin Hydrating Booster as my moisturiser because my skin is really oily but if her skin is more dry she might prefer to use a moisturiser too.

I hope that's helped you xx

Yeah i never really thought of that one because i always thought of skin hydrating booster being good for areas that feel dry to hydrate the skin, you see i thought i skin could be dry but then again its probably because clearsel is drying them up too- she also does wear and spf which would make the redness worst.
thankyou for that anyway x

Medicated gel is good for congested skin not just acne (the label at the back is slightly misleading). It can be used to draw out congestion.

Unless you see alot of pustular spots then using dermal clay would be much better than anti-bac. If her skin is slightly dry consider special cleansing gel. It is highly advisable that she uses precleanse. It's the best way to remove makeup, dirt and grim by absorbing all the oil on the skin like a sponge. Explain to her that proper cleansing of the skin is essential.

Redness because she is probably picking at the skin and causing further inflammation and bacteria to spread. The clearasil is too astringent strips the barrier function. Advise her to stop using it.

She should also use gentle cream exfoliant or if she is more serious the daily resurfacer. Both these products contain AHAs which will help cleanse the pores.

Multivitamin masque - this is very soothing and healing.

Skin that is prone to breakouts benefit from regular exfoliation to increase cellular renewal. If you can treat her skin to a state where it is hydrated and redness has improved then you can move her up a level by prescribing the skin renewal booster as a home treatment.

Get her to come in for a weekly microzone treatment (20mins) and do skin exfoliant system with ae26 for 3-6 weeks. No high frequency because she is pregnant.

You also need to explain to her that in the first few months of pregnancy her hormones will effect her skin and for her to be patient.

You can also give her a courtesy call and check on her progress, ask how the products are going, check if she following the correct homecare regime.

Has the new acne line reached you guys yet? How about the the age smart line?

anyway... to the question at hand. I personally would have presribed the the anti-bac (clearing skin wash) and the medicated clearing gel (overnight clearing gel). I find the dermal clay is much more drying then the anti-bac.

I agree with curly bamboo!! Anti Bac Skin wash is for use on a acne prone skin but in lots of cases is too potent on the skin.
Special Cleansing Gel is more suitable as if she suffers from areas of dry skin as well as acne, Dermal Clay will be too drying on the skin.
Multi Vit Masque is ideal as its very soothing on the skin and will help reduce irritation.
Medicated Clearing Gel will help de congest the skin ( I swear by it!!)

As for using Clearasil......... it completely strips the skin of its natural PH balance and causes the skin to dry out too much, her skin would be much better off without it!!

Also, Pregnancy, especially during the first trimester.... hormones are all over the place. I no when I was pregnant my skin was terrible up until about 5months pregnant! I had severe spots and papules that never amounted to anything and no matter what I put on my skin... nothing helped!!!

She needs to be careful experiencing new products during the first stages of pregnancy as the skin can be easily sensitized.
