Ive just found out that im pregnant and currently have a set of acrylics on. Should i take them off?

Also ive been doing a course in applying acrylic nails which has 2 wks left do you think im ok to still attend with just 2 wks left?

AND!! sorry for all the questions but if im not wearing acrylics am i still ok to work with it and apply it to others? or should i just stop? and is this the same case with applying nail varnish?

If you do a search on pregnancy and nails, you will find that you are safe to wear and perform them. Just be extra careful about not getting monomer/product on the skin, and be sure to work safe.

Aww thankyou that makes me feel much better, i was a nervous wreck in college last night

Our tutor has always said that in the 1st 3 months you shouldnt apply them to a pregnant lady, is that not correct?

I would say that it's a matter of oppinion. Trouble is, if something happends during the first 1-3 month, which is a critical time as we are all aware of, then eventhough theres nothing wrong and no harm in doing nails on pregnant ladys, some might consider it the techs fault (let me just say that I'm sure my products doesn't cause harm, wouldn't know about some of those unlabelled ones)
So some won't and some will, which doesn't make your tutor wrong, unless she's claiming it can do harm.
I do nails on pregnant ladies and have been wearing nails during my own, and no one I have ever heard about have had damage because of that. But I trust my products completely (CND l&p and Brisa gel), along with my own ability to work safe.

The only other 'problem' you may have with a pregnant lady is due to hormones, so nails may grow quicker/slower or become brittle/soft. I would still put extensions on any client that was pregnant but just advise them that their natural nails may be slightly different due to the hormones. They should be happy if you give them the best advise.

janedee, check out this:
Is it Safe to Visit the Nail Salon? - Pregnancy - Families.com

One study has been done that looked at children of mothers who work as nail technicians. The study was done at the University of Toronto and the children are of school age. Their mothers all worked in nail salons throughout the pregnancy. The study found that the kids had lower scores on tests of cognitive function, language and attention. It should be noted that these children were exposed to the chemicals for extended periods of time.

hiyaaa its actually me who's pregnant would that make any difference?
Would only be doing them on myself and my mum for now

It shouldn't make any difference at all providing you're working safely, as Doug points out in the link I posted :green:

This is just ONE study and proves nothing to me, as a lot of other things play a role. I mean you can find studies that proves that eating lots of fat is healthy, that you need to eat loads of salt etc..

I trust Doug who knows what he's talking about, and an industry that has been around for ages.

And the things they say eg. the fumes can knock you over etc. well I don't have strong fumes (right term vapours) and I have the right ventilation system, which, by reading the link, it sound like the nail salons they done the study around doesn't.
