ok...Im going to look silly but never heard of it during my course so I feel a bit lost here...what is it and what is it for?do I use it for acrylic nails or gel or both?

As u can see I dont have a clue ..lol...pls help me..

why was I not told during my course, is it not something you do or maybe it was missed?...

thx

Some systems dont need a primer, so thats probably why you havent used or heard of it on your course.

i doubt it was missed the system that u work with might not need it. the system i use it is preferable.. i only tend to use it on clients that are prone to lifting. it helps bond the acrylic or gel to the nail. hope this helps!!!! xx

id just like to add to this (for my own peace of mind lol) primer is ACID...so dont go buying some to experiment with cos your wondering what it does!
If you havent been taught to use it with your system, then you probably dont need it so i wouldnt worry about it.

So is Lemon Juice !! Primer isn't going to burn a hole in your carpet like sulfuric acid or something! Primer isn't dangerous but needs to be used with knowledge just like anythng else.

If your system does not require it then you don't need it ... end of story.

Not in all cases it isn't. The CND promer is Acid-Free Primer, as are most of the primers in the top-end systems (but I can onlyt speak for CND as that is the system I use).

It is so important to understand your products - what they are, how they work and why you use them. Just because something is chemically formualted in a certain way doesn't make it dangerous, but it does mean you need to understand how to use it safely.

I agree, thats not right Anna.....The primer i use is acid free too.....and as Geeg said, even an acid primer is safe when used correctly by those who know how to use it.

well, I recently had to translate the Primer part of Doug's book for a French mate...

so in fact there are 3 kinds of primers. all create a different kind of bond, and of course, you should always use first the primer required by your system. what may not be that obvious is that non acid and acide free primers are 2 different things, one can be applied on your skin and will not burn (OK it's not meant to but you can) whereas the other still has to be used with caution. but still, less that the plain common primer.

so what it is, it is an agent that will allow your product to stick to the nail.

some l&p systems have it in the monomer, but if you take the HD by Ezflow it tends to yellow which is annoying. it also means that it will be overal more acid. which isn't that good.

and some gel systems also include the primer in the base gel.

so well, always stick to one system per set or nail, and you will avoid many problems.

May I just clarify that CND primerless monomer Retention+ contains NO PRIMER IN THE MONOMER it contains no primer at all and bonds completely differently to the plate ... which is why it is so cool and has no yellowing either.

I've never used this :| lol. but I'm pretty clueless to CND... other than tips, solaroil and Moxie...

is retention+ a whole primerless system or is there a monomere in the system that doesn't require it?

I realise there are different strengths and types of primer but the primer used with Ezflow is regarded as the most dangerous part of our kit as it is 96% acid, so like i said (and for my own peace of mind i felt i needed to mention) that primer in particularly is something to be careful about using.....there are techs that have had horrific burns from accidents with primer.......in fact i remember reading about one in particular (cant remember name) she ended up needing skin grafts, therefore i personally think it is important to stress the dangers of this product in particular.

I know!

the ezflow primer burns... I had an Ezflow nail and I am so used to softer products I couldn't believe the pain...
