Proper application of flowers and crushed shells

Hey, me again lol.

Tried applying flowers and shells but the nails were a bit to bulky after applying clear acrylic.

I wish I had a digi cam so you guys could see. Someone recommended adding the flowers and shells by applying basecoat and then the shells.

Can anyone assist me.

I have'nt used the shells, but I have used the floweres.
I would say you are definately using too much product!
How do you adhere the flowers? I like to use a tiny bead of liquid & powder, & press the flower in, then thinly cover the flower in clear / pink L&P.
If adhering the floweres with l&p is'nt working for you, you can use a little bit of adhesive instead...but I prefer the bead method myself
