So I've been seeing online more and more people using drills to remove the first layer of gel polish instead of filing by hand. This would save so much time! But is it safe to do and if so what drill bit should i use?

Mandrel and sanding bands :)

What gel polish are you using? Electric files I would only use for enhancements, if you where asking about hard gel enhancements I would really recommend it, but gel polish is such a thin coating it's just not necessary because they are meant to be soaked off, if it's something like Gelish you just need to take off the shine with a 180 file from the surface which I can do in about 10 seconds per nail, if you really need to speed up on that you could go down to a 150 grit file. But even with gelish removing the top coat is only an optional step, it will soak off if you just wrap it, just takes a little longer x
