I have been doing nails since I took cosmetology in high school.
Never have I had any issue, until this past year/year and a half.
I noticed that 2 of my nail beds started to have a ridge run straight down my nail bed after removing my gel nails.
I am very gentle with my hands so I know I have not damaged my cuticle area or the nail bed itself.
But these ridges seem to start below the cuticle line.
( you can see the change of color on the free edge where it has grown out)
Anyone know what may have caused them?
When they do grow out as I have right now they usually split, but I'm pregnant right now and haven't had them split in the last 6 months on the ends at all.
Just curious what other nail techs think.

Thanks for your info :) ImageUploadedBySalonGeek1391193764.213126.jpg

It's my understanding that these can be caused by trauma to the matrix - ie where the nail is formed before extending onto nail bed.

Yes. Definitely trauma to the matrix.
You may not remember damaging your nails as it could've been years ago
My two thumbs are like that and I can pinpoint exactly when it happened.
A thin layer of Brisa Lite or L&P under your polish should stop the splitting
