Rough, white nail plate

Hi everyone. After a bit of advice about a clients nails. She swims everyday and because of the chlorine has a nail strengthener or clear varnish on her nail's permanently as she feels this protects them. She also goes abroad regularly and bakes herself in the sun all day as well as continuing to swim each day. Her nails have always been dry but are now getting white and rough from about half way up the nail plate with little pits. She uses handcream everyday but refuses to stop covering her nail even though I have suggested any form of varnish/strengthener will be drying them. When she has a manicure the polish never lasts long and she complains. I want her to desist from everything apart from handcream and nail oil to allow nail to recover.
Any thoughts welcomed.☺
