im a mua, specialising in bridal makeup - im currently just over 3 mths pregnant and have decided that once baby comes i will try and offer my makeup services / eyelash extensions (yet to train in the later!) from a base rather than mobile

there are 6 hairdressers in town, so have been thinking about approaching them to ask if i can rent some space or perhaps offer some sort of combined makeover / glam and go package for frid / sat nights out?

also bridal / bridal party makeup - i could come along to the salon and apply the makeup once the updos etc have been done - do you think tihs would work, is it something you would consider, how should i approach the salons - by phone, drop in with my portfolio or by post with covering letter and piccies from my portfolio ?

any advice would be appreciated

That all sounds great. I would suggest approaching hair salons that dont have a therapist room there, as they would possibly have their own therapist to do this.

I would put together photos/portfolio of work, a CV and covering note to advise them of your idea. Perhaps offer them an incentive to start off with such as a discount for the first 2 pamper parties.

You would need to think of space in the salons, how far you are willing to travel and what you would need to take with you. As in my experience i would not have been wanting to carry my beauty couch around throughout my pregnancy.

Why dont you think of renting space somewhere with a beauty room part time?

You would also need to think of time....make up and party lashes are great... eyelash extensions would not be suitable for this as it takes too long. I would advise learning eyelash extensions as depending on where you are in Essex there is a huge demand for them. Just try and think of your bump first, i got to 8 months before my bump was way too big to be sitting for long periods doing eyelashes, it just got in the way!

If you would like details of lash training read some of the threads or pm me x

Absolutely perfect idea. It is a massively growing area of the bhair/beauty business. Packaging hair and makeup is a given.

Ring first to make sure they don't already offer the service. If you have the confidence the best way is to walk in the door and ask for the owner, make sure you look the part - go glam. Make the pitch directly. But have an idea what you would charge and what proportion the salon owner would get.

A futher comment would be to have already hooked up with a brand, take in a professional looking kit, professional literature as well as any portfolio so they can see you are offering a complete package that would enhance their business offering. Also means you can build in retail sales where you and owner can divide the 100% maekup on the retail.
