Hi geeks,

Please read this article about my boyfriends neice.

Katie is 5 years old and has leukaemia and will die unless she has a bone marrow transplant.

Parents' plea: Please save our little Katie's life - The Sunday Mail

You can do your bit to help leukaemia sufferers like Katie by joining the Anthony Nolan Trust's bone marrow register. Sign up by logging on to Anthony Nolan Trust

Or attend their clinic at the Holiday Inn, East Kilbride, between 11am and 3pm on Saturday.

If you cant help please let Katie be in your prayers - she is a lovely little girl and we thought she was getting better until she had a re-lapse last month.

Thanks for your support.

awww hun, what a sad story, I send my love to the family, I do hope they find a donor match for her

we have a brother and sister at my kids school, who both have this and are both waiting for the ops, when we held our summer fair last year the anthony nolan trust people came along and loads of parents signed up for it, it was very successful

I do hope this will be a sucess for this poor little girl too hun

:hug::hug::hug:xxxxxxx

Hi Samantha,
Your relatives stay just 4 doors away from me. They are a lovely couple and I was so pleased to see Katie was doing so well. How sad that the leukaemia has returned.

I've got the family in my thoughts.

Oh hunny, we've also been through battles with our own baby daughter getting diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer at just 6 weeks old. Thankfully she is doing well at the mo, and appears so far to ahve beaten it (hers was a solid tumour, and we are going back into Gt Ormond St hospital tomorrow for ongoing tests and scans to ensure we are still keeping it at bay - my heart is already in my mouth)

Because of this - and the fact we have seen too many of her friends become angels, we signed up as bone marrow donors a while ago. You can also do it through the national blood service....just tell them whenever you give blood.

Geeks, please be aware it is very easy to do to sign up and is nowhere near as invasive as many think. It simply involves giving a blood sample (same way as you normally do....tiny needle in the arm, few mls drawn off) which is then tested and if and only if you are matched as a donor do you ever actually give bone marrow, which is slightly more involved but by that point you are invariably saving someone's life.

I'm the worlds biggest scaredy cat and I have no problem with it.

I shall say my prayers for a donor for this wee one.....wish I could help more, I truly do

I can't make it on Saturday hun but am going to sign up with the Anthony Nolan Trust. I have quite a rare blood group(so the blood people are always in touch with me) so who knows?

Just hope I can help.

In the meantime love and  to you and your family xxxx

Wishing you lots of luck with finding a match I enrolled on the Antony Nolan register about 12 years when a dear friend was after a match for his brother sadly one was not found but for many many people this service is the difference between life and death.
