:eek:I have just finished a short course on acrylic nails and after reading some of the posts that say short courses are rubbish its quite scary! I understand that in no way can i call myself a qualified nail technician because im far from it ! i think that someone who has done a short course and someone who has done a longer course if given the same amount of time to practice could be as good as each other. I think its all about practising and patience and time!!

Hi hun - who did you do your course with? :)

Hi ya i done the course at sallys.

The very first course I did was on a Sat & Sun, and I passed the exam. A few months later I took another course with a different company which lasted a few weeks and I must say that after finishing and passing, that I learned a lot more and that there was a lot more to being a nail tech than I knew, I am just glad I did the second and further courses, I don't think you can learn a quarter of what goes into being a nail tech in just 2 days. I am not knocking short courses I am just saying how it is for me.

After practising on a few people i started to get a bit panicky cause the nails i were doing were lifting after a couple of days but lucky for me i have a friend who is a qualified nail tech and she has been doing it for 9 years so i went to her and watched her with her clients i learnt a lot from her i do want to do more courses but need some pennies first as its all very expensive!!

I agree it is expensive but for me worthwhile, keep watching your freind but try not to pick up any habbits and keep practicing for all your worth, good luck:)

Thanks very much i really want to do it , its hard cause i just want to buy loads of stuff and am running out of people to practice on ha ha!:)

practice practice practice.oh and practice:)thg

You can only practice what you have been taught...if you have only had 2 days of learning, you can practice what you have been taught on those 2 days....if you have had 5 days of learning, you can practice what you have been taught on those 5 days.

I understand that training is expensive, but you will ultimately spend more (or lose more) if you have not learned enough to make your career as a nail technician profitable, safe and ongoing.

hi, just wondering how long the creative training is ?

My foundation course with creative was 5 days long, spread over about 2 months, as I recall.

Lilly I think the Foundation course is 5 days . . . but you can take further courses from there

newbieclare . . . there's nothing to say you can't be a successful nail technician after a short course, I guess a lot depends on the quality of the tutor really, but a longer more in depth course will of course be more beneficial in the long run. As you say, it is all very expensive to start with.

This site is a godsend for us all, and especially people like yourself who may now have a few questions or need answers to probs that crop up . . . by all means do a further course or troubleshooting day when you can afford to, but of course you need to make a bit of money in the meantime, so don't be afraid to pick our brains and we'll do what we can to help

Well done for DOING a course anyway and not just trying to be self-taught like an alarming number of peeps do (it always amazes me that they can't see why they shouldn't try to teach themselves:rolleyes:)

The course is 5 days long and will normally be spread over a period of 4 - 6 weeks, dependant on the Academy's timetable.

Many one-day training days are available after Foundation to build on existing skills or to add even more skills to your repertoire:)

Thanks i wanted to do a course as i wanted to have a certificate to show people that im serious about becoming a nail technician and wanted to go the proper way about it i admire nail technicians as it may seem easy when your having them done yourself but its far from easy and so much to learn!:)

I have just finished a 4 day course over a month period. I have practised on friends and have now run out of people to practise on.
I am scared to go out onto Joe Public, :Scared: but I will have to take the plunge at some point.
I feel too, that a lot of the learning comes with the working....a bit like driving, you dont actually learn until you have passed your test.
I am almost set up at home for working....just have to be brave and bite the bullet!!:D
I will continue to learn more, and with websites like this, how can you not!

Your certainly right there hun,I think a lot of guys think one course and your fully qualified..uh uh, I done a 4 day intensive course 2 years ago ,and Im still learning now, there was no way they were gonna fit every thing into 4 days.

But thanks to this site and doing conversion courses ,I feel Im getting better, but still have a few obsticals to over come.It seems such a long proceedure, but hopefully one day I will be a proud nail tech.
