Hi all......

Could do with some advice about being a self employed nail technician.....

Would you rent a chair and pay for your own stock etc but get all the money you earn for yourself or would you go self employed where the owner of the salon pays for the stock but gets a percentage of the profit for example 60/40 or 50/50?

Please help

hi there
im in a salon and i get my own stock, its better cos things can get awkward when the salon supplies it. as in people using your brush (freaks me out, happened on me before in another place) we agreed on a 25% profit share for the salon. they take my bookings n we generate business for each other. we combine our services for packages. works great for me, but im so lucky with the salon im in the girls are lovely n we get on great.

think most salons here want minimum 30% or 50-60% if they supply stock

good luck

Thanks for the advice! xx

Hi Gemma
I think it kind of depends on whats on offer. I have been offered a job where I pay a flat rate of rent only per day (only on a Saturday as I have full time job) and I get all my stock and everything. So I would kept to keep everything I made after the rent is taken out. It does mean if I have no clients then I have to pay the rent still which is a bit scary!
I have decided to go mobile instead as I think that this would be better for me but from what I have read on here you need to make sure you are happy with the percetage split and you have a contract in case anything doesnt go as it should.
Good luck :green:
