Good evening all!

Hoping for a little advice from some of our more experienced nail techs :)

For years I have been a self employed nail tech renting a space within a hair salon. I have recently been given the opportunity to offer my services in a hospital. This is an NHS hospital so the patients will not be paying me directly, but the hospital itself will pay for my services on an hourly basis.

DO NOT WORRY! Before all the worried responses come flooding in stating that you can't be self employed on an hourly rate, you can. But my question is... how much?

I answered the question on the spot, factoring in all the outgoings I could think of at the time and lopped £8 off what I usually earn per hour due to the fact that I won't be paying rent. I also won't be using my more expensive products such as Shellac, and won't be needing my card terminal. But I'm worried I've sold myself short.

Does anyone else have experience in selling your services to a company or have a similar set up?

All advice / reassurance will be greatly received!

I have PM'd you.

Hey,

I do the same but offer massage treatments at a hospital for oncology patients. I charge £10ph. I invoice them at the end of each month. I hope this helps?

Thank you Kez. I will be invoicing them at the end of each month also. That is really helpful thank you. My charge is slightly higher but then again my product & equipment costs are probably higher too. Are you also providing your own insurance?

Mooey and Kezcows.... Just wondering how you got your job doing treatments for the NHS? This is something I would be interested in doing :)

Hey money,

I have my own insurance as I do mobile treatments as well so need to be covered anyway. And to be honest I prefer to have my own so that I know the policy inside out and make sure it's what I require. They supply the massage cream, foot spray etc but I advise them which to get.

Stephstherapist ,

I got offered the job as people knew that I specialised on oncology massage so it was word of mouth. I invoice a charity not the NHS.

Hope this helps

Thanks Kez. Out of interest do you charge more privately? £10 per hour sounds quite low for massage. I'm not all that familiar with oncology massage though I must admit...perhaps it's a whole different kettle of fish? :)

Hi StephsTherapies,

I got the position through word of mouth also. I set up business a few years ago and was approached recently asking if I would be interested. Absolute blessing!

What you could do is try emailing the nursing homes/hospitals directly?

Thanks for both your replies :)

I will definitely look into emailing nursing homes and hospitals and see what they say.

It's nice that you were both approached though!

Hi steps therapies,

I do charge more privately. But at the hospital it is guaranteed hours each week, they pay for oils etc. I'm not back to back with clients throughout the day and it is for a charity so think it is a fair price to charge. Good luck!

Sounds like a good arrangement :)

Can I ask what charity you work for?
