Ok and is this for the training? how much money do you make (approxilmately) out from it? ie is it wirt it? X

Training and machine. It was worth doing as I do make a ok living. Some clients are hard work, much more than waxing, facial etc.. Phone calls about trivial nonsense at all hours, especially when they are just healing. Worth doing but you need thick skin and to take no s@@t otherwise you dragged into people neurotic problems. Some clients are wonderful of course! Be prepared to be assertive though, you need to be, it did not come naturally for me.

wow thank you for the advice. This is something Im interested in but no way have the funds for anytime soon, perhaps in a few years! ;) I think I am a bit of a softie so I would have to practice getting that thick skin! it can be done tho Im sure! x

Hi Hun, well first of all I am trained in permanent make up, and it will be an expensive outlay. But as you've already stated the funds aren't available yet.
What I DO recommend is preparing yourself before you do the training, by drawing brows on a sheet of paper, then using a grapefruit as it's rounded and you will get the feel of drawing brows. Then practice drawing on friends (assure them it can be wiped off lol). That way you can look then analyse who needs what. This really will prepare you for your training. Look at only online procedures, somewhere like YouTube even. Or contact a good company and tell them your thinking of doing the training can you come along for the day just to watch them in action. One thing I must say is, you will not have people queuing up everyday for PMU (permanent make up). But when your established and have a good name, you will be able to earn a good days money. Approximately £350-£375 for brows. There is some really BAD work out there unfortunately for the recipient of bad brows, and extremely bad eye liner where it's migrated! So be amongst the best, be a good ambassador for the profession. It's a bit like Leslie Ash when she had her lips done! Every body thinks that's what a lip filler will do! Totally wrong but it's an example.
I wish you well in your quest to become a PMU technician.it is highly rewarding unlike waxing a bikini line or armpits! So is the money.

It will be approx £10-£12K. But once you've got your equipment needles etc.
Your set.

I got my training and equipment for £4K. I do feel that my training was quite basic though but I feel I can do a basic eye liner and a simple brow. I may invest in some further training in the future as I hear of people doing some advanced stuff.

I too looked into this and it was around 12-15k but that was just to get started, I echo what the person said about being thick skinned, even if you are great at managing Clients expectations, it can be really hard.

I looked at it like being on L plates then passing your test, it takes years to become good.

Training companies were saying what a good career, but calling around to genuine people I was told they were not that busy, and that companies push to train then sell you equipment & products.

I got my eyebrows done by Heidi Worman, (she is brilliant) she now comes into the salon and we make commission, she is not a therapist, just a specialist.

She can take all expectations and other stuff from the clients.

Thank you,

Topsi can I ask where you trained? Thanks :)) xx

Thank you ladies, there is really some food for thought on all you have said! it is not something I intend on doing anytime soon as I am just starting out on my new career as a therapist and there is so much to learn! I am just very interested.. Thank you! :) X

The Sherebourne Clinic in Dorset. I am a nurse so she cut the training down from 5 to 4 days as she felt I didn't need to hear all about preventing infection, sharps disposal and all that stuff. She was very nice and is always on the end of the phone to give advice etc. It included all my start up equipment. I do feel that I am competent on basic procedures but am considering further training at some point.
You can make good money from it but bear in mind that even though I do treatments such as botox/fillers, the SPMU is the most difficult and nerve wracking treatment that I do. Lots of people train in it then never do the treatments because they are too nervous!
There are lots of aspects to the treatment such as understanding colour, shape of brows etc actually doing the treatment without messing up, client expectations.
Also you will prob need to register with the council and have them inspect your premesis and equipment.

Take your time looking for a training company, first one I went with was the pits and to be honest so was my work back in 2003! This training was very expensive too! I have since retrained and very much regret not going with Noveau Contour in the first place, they are excellent and very supportive. If I had not retrained with noveau contour I would of given up as I was loosing confidence.

How much is the insurance to be a semi permanent make up artist?

i pay 180 a year insurance........ so not too bad

Hi

We run courses on the semi permanent make up here at the Sherborne Clinic, please feel free to give Alison West a call on 01935 815565 as I know she'll be more than happy to run through what it involves etc as it is an investment you shouldn't decide upon lightly. We can also offer taster days which will be deducted from the training cost if you decide to go for it.

Hope this helps

Lauren
